FALL INTO PERFECTION

Over the years the most consistent complaints we estheticians hear are, “I hate these brown spots, how can I get rid of them?”, “Oh my God, I’m turning into my grandmother, I have these horrific hairs sprouting from my chin! HELP!!!!!”, “My pores are huge, how can I make them smaller?” “I don’t expect to look twenty-five, I just want to look as good as I can for my age.” For the true skin care devotee, there is a point where the jar, tube or bottle ends and more intensive treatments are required. Fortunately, we possess the latest and greatest technologies in the field of modern cosmetics to address the aforementioned dignities of fathertime……. For pigment irregularities, we perform a service called Fotofacial. This treatment employs both optical light and radio frequency to eradicate those unsightly brown spots and dilated capilllaries. This service can be performed all over the body: face, neck, chest, hands, arms and legs. It takes about forty-five minutes and you can expect results almost immediately with little to no downtime. Pore size, skin elasticity, texture and color are all improved by E MATRIX. This technology effectively treats mild to moderate wrinkling, hyperpigmentation, post acne scarring and firms and tones the skin. Energy is applied to the skin in a matrix and the untreated skin around the treated spots accelerate the healing process and amplifies the results. Fall is the perfect time to begin permanent hair removal with sophisticated ELOS technology at Rescue Spa. This unique and innovative technology combines both light and radio frequency to thermally damage the hair follicle. Unlike the antiquated lasers previously used for hair removal, light energy is converted to thermal energy which heats up the hair shaft and follicle. Radio frequency is then attracted to the already preheated follicle, thus intensifying the heat and ultimately destroying it. Both energies are applied in one pulse for a safer, more effective and less painful treatment.

Haute Couture Facial

With the new season approaching I’ve been daydreaming about the smell of pumpkin spice, apples, and cinnamon… brisk air, cozy nights, and carving pumpkins. A time to say goodbye summer and the UV damage it left behind. Yes, sun damage and dehydration….ahhh the ravages of summer. Skin looses vital moisture in the sun causing it to shed much slower, so there is a lot of dead skin cells left on your face which makes it look dull. Dehydration- skin looses vital moisture.. so it withers and wilts making the fine lines jump off your face.

How can Rescue Rittenhouse Spa help? Haute Couture Facial!! Jump-start your skin’s needs. Microderm, electric currents, peels, lotions, and potions! You will see significant improvement instantly. Don’t walk, run…Salvation is just a phone call away.

Turn over a new leaf with your skincare routine

September is the most beautiful month to be in Philadelphia, to take breezy walks, sit at cafes and enjoy the outdoors.  Yet at the same time our skin reacts immediately to the weather becoming cooler and drier.  Skin takes time to acclimate, so this is the best time of year to change your skincare routine.  Focus on rich creams and a little extra exfoliation to get rid of any post summer build up on your skin.  I recommend adding a professional peel to your next facial. We have a options such as Alpha Beta or TCA peels, depending on your individual needs.  Incorporating a serum into your skincare routine is also a smart choice.  Serums are potent, have small molecules, and quickly penetrate the epidermis. They also layer beautifully under moisturizer.  Pay attention to the way your skin reacts to products and only do what is necessary to achieve a healthy balance.  Remember, although it’s no longer summer you still need to apply your sunscreen daily!

Ravages of Summer Skin

Well, it’s September and by now all of you are looking in the mirror at yourself thinking “Wait… what are those spots? Why is my skin dull? It was just a couple of months ago my skin was glowing, smooth and firm.”  The sun makes us happy and provides us with Vitamin D yet unfortunately it also creates UV damage deep within the epidermis.  UV damage can manifest itself in the form of brown spots (that will darken with age, UGH!) and wrinkles.  Have no fear, bronze-goddesses, there are things you can do to prevent and even reverse this phenomenon.  Incorporate Environ products such as AVST, Vitamin C Quence, and Clarifying lotion to your daily regimen.  A great skin care regimen is most important… but what else is available?  Foto Facials!!  Hallelujah! Foto facials (AKA skin rejuvenation) can safely restore your skin.  The combined bi-polar radio frequency and light energies precisely and safely target pigmented lesions such as freckles, sun spots, and age spots.  In a matter of 3-5 recommended treatments and no down time Foto Facials are the best way to restore and rejuvenate the appearance of your skin.

Out With the Old Skin-In With the New

As summer begins to wind down, a lot of my clients are becoming aware that their skin, formerly tanned and glowing, is beginning to look a bit flaky and tired. My ethnic skinned folks are experiencing record levels of hyperpigmentation as well which is not so cute. I am recommending for everybody a cocktail of Environ’s Clarifying Lotion (which I’ve begun using) and C-Boost. The intense combo of anti-oxidant and alpha-hydroxy quickly whips the skin back into shape and you have the immediate result of a brighter fresher looking skin. On ethnic skin I’m seeing astounding results; dark marks are fading quite rapidly replaced by smoother even-toned skin. Who has time to wait?

For my brides-to-be with late fall and winter weddings eminent this is a great time to begin a brightening regimen. If however you are getting married within the next five weeks and your skin is o.k. now is not the time to try something new. Just be sure to book a short series of bridal facials to ensure fabulous looking skin.

Aren’t award winners great? I always want to know their secrets of how they reached that level.  A few weeks ago I interviewed our own multi-award winning owner Danuta Mieloch. Last week I was granted an interview with her contemporary, Christine Hays, Vice President of Spa Operations for Oberoi Hotels. The Oberoi Hotel has been named Best in the World by Conde’ Nast and their spa has been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Excellent!

Hope everyone was safe and warm during Irene.

Love Ya,

Linda Harding

Stay safe and cozy!

It seems like this year’s summer is ending on a stormy note!  The weekend at home for me means lots of organizing my makeup, products, and tossing out any oldies.  Old makeup can be very creepy.  So let’s toss:

  • Mascara 3 months (after opening)
  • Eyeshadow 1 year (after opening)
  • Powder 6 months (after opening)
  • Foundation 6 months (after opening)
  • Lipstick 6 months (after opening)
  • Eyeliner Pencil 1 year (after opening)
  • Liquid Eyeliner 6 months (after opening)

and for skincare….

  • Cleanser and Scrubs 6 months (after opening)
  • Toner 6 months (after opening)
  • Masks Up to 1 year (after opening) if it’s in a tube
  • Moisturizers 6 months (after opening)
  • Serums Up to 1 year (after opening) if it’s in a pump
  • Sunscreen 3-6 months (after opening)
  • Body Moisturizers Up to 1 year (after opening) if it’s in a pump
  • Shower Sponges and Washcloths should be changed often.

These are my personal regulations and I try to keep up with it.  A rainy weekend for me means a total body scrub,  definitely a face mask, coating my hands and feet with a thick cream, reading my favorite book or watching a La Dolce Vita movie.  Make sure you get flowers and candles to keep you happy, enjoy your weekend inside and Be Safe!

Summer in the City

Last Friday as my husband and I strolled down Walnut Street trying to burn off some calories from overindulging at Sansom Street Oyster House we came across a portrait in the making. A gorgeous bride posing for the photographer in front of Rittenhouse Square, wearing a wonderfully sumptuous creamy dress with the train swirling in front of her. She was flanked on either side by seven groomsmen, immaculately tuxedoed in black. Her bridesmaids all wore a vibrant shade of fuchsia which looks best on tanned skin, which they all had. As I watched them I wondered if they were spray tanned, sun tanned, self tanned? (Because that’s the way my esthetician mind works). Anyway, it struck me that as we creep toward the end of summer most skin can use a good professional body treatment, like a hydrating wrap. Wraps are great to remove the dry buildup that accumulates from too much sun exposure. And even if you are still beach bound on the weekends and determined to tan it up until October, it’s still a good idea right about now to give your skin a treat by sloughing away the old tan to make way for the new.

If taking time out for a body treatment cuts into your summer fun time then pop in to Rescue and pick up some body care from Lalicious. This product line has some of the most la luscious products ever. Body scrubs, cleansers and butters with names like Sugar Kissed and Vanilla Whipped that smell good enough to eat. And they make perfect gifts for your college freshman girls heading off to school. Put them in a cute basket (suitable for dorm room storage) and wait for the hugs.

Congratulations to my very talented, witty and beautiful client Gina Colantonio for, celebrating the two year mark for her very popular blog “Here Comes Gina”. This is my go to blog for hot picks from books to fashion to house wares but I only read it in private because she makes you laugh out loud.

Forget botox!

The key to beautiful skin in my opinion is a mix of science, common sense, clean healthy living, a simple skincare regime practiced daily, and Erika’s juices (optional). So the latest Rescue craze? We all enjoy Erika’s concoctions Pangaea Earth Foods. But quite frankly that’s not all the Rescue estheticians are doing. We’re here to promote healthy clean living.

The Rules
1. Don’t smoke. It smells bad, ages you faster and causes cancer.
2. Don’t sunbathe. It gives you a rough, uneven skin tone, ages you prematurely and (like smoking) causes cancer too.
3. Don’t yo-yo diet. It causes sagging skin.
4. Don’t over use skincare products. We see clients using a ton of skincare products and often times they contain too-harsh, medical grade ingredients not suitable for daily use. (Use meds only when in need. Severe acne, outbreaks, dermatitis or other medical conditions only).

In my opinion all estheticians have fabulous skin, the kind that is envied by dermatologists. We don’t over laser. We don’t botox. We don’t inject. We just use simple care. Daily practice makes perfect.  Besides prevention is a cheaper and safer way to maintain beautiful skin than costly visits to the plastic surgeon. My straight forward advice would be to maintain your overall health by eating well, exercising, drinking water, and following a simple skincare routine. Cleanse, tone, moisturize, protect (SPF 30+). Stick to it… smile and voila!
