“Difficult” Skin

As the seasons change, and the weather becomes colder, keeping one’s skin can become quite a challenge. Personally my skin is in itself a challenge year round as I battle adult acne, redness, hyper pigmentation, and signs of aging. I have to admit, I am not one who loves creams or moisturizers for my skin personally because I already produce enough oils as it is. However, in the winter I do become a bit surface dry, my skin is visibly dry and sometime flaky.

Last year the senior aestheticians convinced me to give Dermopurifiante by Biologique Recherche a try. This cream is very purifying for oily/ combination skin which leaves my complexion unified and hydrated without feeling greasy.

dermopurifiante

Creme Dermopurifiante:

  • Purifies the skin with antibacterial active ingredients
  • Helps to regulate sebaceous secretions
  • Helps tighten pores
  • Softens skin blemishes

I actually love this cream to date and use it religiously as my night cream year round. However, I feel sometimes that it can be a bit much for daily use, this is when I discovered EMULSION GEL BIOSENSIBLE by Biologique Recherche. I have been using this gel daily for the past two weeks and I am loving it! After cleansing my skin, I apply P50, Serum VG Tensil (for firming), and finish with Emulsion Gel Biosensible. This preps my skin perfectly for my daily makeup application.

Emulsion Gel Biosensible:

  • Reduces redness and relieves tight skin
  • Regulates oil production
  • Illuminates and evens out the complexion

This system seems to be working great for my skin type which has been called very difficult by some of the best estheticians, but it is the truth. I also practice what I preach and get a facial every four weeks. This is a must to keep my skin on track, and away from the Dr. with all his/her medications, creams, and pills. Last but not least I must mention, I also continue to mask my skin once a week with Mask VIVANT and use Retinol 1 by ENVIRON once a week at night!

Baby Bump

The day I found out I was pregnant I made it my latest hobby.  Like most new moms to
be I started my research.  I looked into what foods to eat, the best exercises and yoga, coffee or no coffee; anything and everything to keep me and the baby healthy, safe, and happy. It can be rather overwhelming.  When it came to skin care I realized I had to be mindful of what I was using, as whatever you put on your skin will be absorbed into your body and blood stream, and will find its way into your developing baby.

Your body is surging with hormones, which is producing a variety of changes.  You
may see changes in your skin like you’ve never experienced. Therefor, your skin care
regimen will have to change to help your skin look and feel better. I highly recommend a nice cream cleanser by Biologique Recherche – Lait U. It will thoroughly cleanse your skin without stripping you of your natural oils. After cleansing, use the Cellcosmet Activator Gel, followed by the Cellcosmet Active Tonic Lotion. The combination of these two products will brighten and help balance the pH in your skin. Finishing off your regimen with Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre, a combination of natural active ingredients which is also paraben free. If you’re focusing on breakouts and oily combination skin, I recommend the original P-50, which is advised for women who are pregnant or nursing as it does not contain phenol.  Follow this with Dermopurifiante from Biologique Recherche.

Last but not least, let’s not forget about your body. As your baby grows, so will your
baby bump. Your skin will become tight and itchy. What will help get you through those long, dry nights? A nice exfoliating scrub. I really enjoyed the purifying Himalayan salt scrub by Rituals. After you thoroughly dry off, Rituals also make a wonderful body cream that is very hydrating and nourishing.

What is most important is to keep it simple and try to stay calm and relaxed. Remember that if it’s a happy mommy, it’s a happy baby.

Weird Skin Ingredients to Try Before Everyone Else

Salmon sperm might not sound as pleasant as, say, silver, but according to this study, it might be the savior your skin is missing. In the study, researchers asked male subjects to rub “DNA-Na from salmon milt” (a.k.a. salmon sperm) onto their skin for 12 weeks. By week four, skin elasticity was “improved significantly,” water content had increased, and more the 90 percent of the subjects “felt improving roughness of the skin.” Plus, it promoted the production of hyaluronic acid.

The DNA that is used by Valmont comes from the Canadian
salmon milt. Thanks to a patented extraction process, its molecular structure remains intact. The DNA is said to be « HP » which means highly polymerized. When ingenuously combined with three essential macro-elements (Magnesium, Calcium and Sodium) HP DNA becomes Triple DNA. Selected for their oxygenation and cellular regeneration properties, these three macro-elements provide the DNA molecule with the benefits of the mineral world.

Interested? DNA is in all Valmont products! We love Valmont’s DNA Repair Serum

Fermented foods—think kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut, and plain yogurt—may not smell pleasant, but they’re full of enzymes that promote a variety of health benefits (healthy digestion, improved immunity, and more). Fermented skin products follow the same line of thinking, and are already a huge trend in Korea (a.k.a. they’re bound to make their way to the U.S. in the next year or so). Here’s the gist: Skincare products with fermented ingredients actually pack a more potent punch because the fermentation process makes the nutrients more concentrated, and thus more easily absorbed. The most common fermented ingredients? Fruits, plants, herbs, and yeast. For example, Biologique Recherche’s Creme Dermopurifiante and Masque Vivant are made with brewers yeast.

Men need facials too…

Now that Valentine’s day is around the corner I was thinking it’s pretty easy for men to get a gift for their ladies… but for us it’s always a struggle.  In my years as an esthetician I have noticed that the men who come to me for facials love it!!! Usually they come in because they received a gift from their wife or girlfriend, etc….. Men need facials too, it just takes them one time for them to keep coming back. Rescue Spa has such a nice atmosphere which is gender neutral that allows men to feel more comfortable. There is a steam room that is such a plus with men that work out and take care of themselves. If we also want to talk about a product that is good for men, of course the p50 1970 helps ingrown hair and razor burn and the dermopurifiante for a cream; it’s good for combination skin, reduces redness and regulates oil production. Seems to me a go-to for men.
