As the seasons change, so does my skin care routine. Lait U and P50 1970 every morning and evening. Valmont face scrub followed by Masque Visolastine E. every 4 days and in between, Masque Vivant. Yes, I do something extra for my skin everyday. Both masks can stay on for 10-20 minutes. Masking and exfoliating on the same night is a really wonderful way to give your skin the added punch of active ingredients. That’s why P50 1970 should be used daily. Even that slight exfoliation will increase the efficacy of all of your products. I will continue this probably through October.
And that’s just the beginning. The truth is, after the basic cleanse, exfoliate and tone; hydration, serums and sun protection always baffle clients. In the evening, I think of repairing my skin. Clarifying Surge from Valmont and Intensive Alpha Hydroxy Cream from Environ alternated for this darn sun damage. I always use Valmont Prime Contour or Factor 3 under my eyes at night. During the day, Factor 2. All from Valmont. Day cream is Creme ADN Elastine Marine Collagene Marin and Complex Royal, layered from BR. Now that fall is truly here, I’m going to modify my daily SPF. The Mineral Spray from Dr. Gross is an SPF 50. Normally I would go down to a 30 but because of my sun damage, I will be getting a few photo facials in the coming months.
Check back in November to see what winter has in store for my skin!
It’s All About Winter Protection!
PRIME REGENERA II
Summer is in full swing and I’d like to talk about my most favorite product for the next couple of months. You probably guessed it already, it’s sunscreen. Here at Rescue we have an array of sunscreens to choose from. From Institut Esthederm we have products that promote sun protection and repair (a European favorite) to Environ’s zinc based sunscreen full of antioxidants (South African approach). Yet my absolute favorite right now is Jan Marini’s Physical Protectant SPF 45. It has self adjusting tint, suitable for any skin type. Great for oily skin since it’s zinc based. UVA/UVB broad spectrum coverage that is FDA approved. Water resistant. Full of antioxidants but NO Parabens (a favorite in the USA).
Don’t forget a hat and umbrella and stay in the shade. Remember that staying out of the sun is the best anti-aging prevention!

Hyperpigmentation. It’s like an unwanted, unexpected guest. It especially loves to visit folks with Ethnic Skin and stay a long time. And it doesn’t discriminate. It loves women and men. If your skin tone ranges from golden to black, if you are of Asian, African, East Indian, Hispanic, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern or Native American descent you have probably experienced hyperpigmentation or dark marks at some point in your life. As an African-American it took me years to learn exactly what I can and cannot do to my skin to avoid hyper pigmenting it. As an esthetician I have also worked on a lot of different ethnic
skin types and I will tell you that the experience is invaluable because ethnic skin is generally not a topic extensively addressed in esthetic schools and requires an expanded depth of knowledge.
I believe that having melanin (black or brown pigment) in your skin is like having curly hair. Just as you would seek out a stylist who specializes in working with your unique hair type, it is advantageous to find a professional who understands your skin. There are just too many variables involved and often the same regimen which may work perfectly for someone with blond hair and blue eyes is the trigger for causing damage and hyperpigmentation on a darker skin.
If you have ethnic skin you should be treating your skin very gently for every step of your daily regime; no aggressive scrubbing picking or squeezing. No “over the top” peels. If you are a man and experiencing hyperpigmentation around your beard and throat area from shaving there are steps which can be taken to help control this development. I am in love with the Environ line of products which can be customized to correct many of the flaws often found with darker skin tones.
Make it a point to begin 2012 with an updated regimen which takes your skin tone into consideration. A little tweaking may result in skin that is more radiant, free of dark marks and more wonderful looking than you could ever have imagined.

Philadelphia fashionista’s are buzzing about the upcoming Nicole Miller extravaganza taking place at Hyatt at the Bellevue on March 5th. If the spectacular gown featured on her postcard is any indication,
attendees will be treated to an afternoon of bridal fashion fabulosity. Are you going?
Wedding season is definitely beginning to rev up. In the past 3 weeks I have performed the initial consultation/facial for five brides to be. Their weddings are scheduled from the end of March to November. If you have planned your nuptials for 2011 and haven’t yet scheduled for your bridal skin consultation, you need to be calling yesterday. With the harsh winter we’ve had so far if you haven’t had a facial in the past month, your skin may need tending to anyway. Why not just book an appointment now, mention that you are a bride and we can discuss your vision for your wedding skin before
treatment. My ethnic brides who have challenges with hyper pigmentation really need to address this issue sooner rather than later. The Environ skin care line has a very systematic approach to fading dark
spots by introducing graduated levels of active ingredients and vitamins to the skin. This line is also extremely effective for new moms with vestiges of “pregnancy mask” and sun worshipers who want to reduce the appearance of sun damage to their skin. Environ also has an acne program which yields great results that don’t take forever to achieve. I personally fell in love with their Gel Moisturizer during the dog days of last summer. Because it’s weightless and unscented it’s one of my go-to moisturizers for my male clients. This reminds me; don’t forget to schedule a facial for your fiancé. Men want their skin to glow on their wedding day too and Rescue Rittenhouse Spa is designed with both of you in mind.
Are you stuck in a beauty rut as the new year approaches? Have you been using the same moisturizer and eye cream forever? It’s time for a change, change is never easy but it’s worth a try. We all have 2 shampoos and conditioners because we believe we need to switch things up. Same goes for skincare. I alternate two or three face creams and eye creams most of the time. As our skin is forever changing sometimes we need more hydration, I like Regenetic. Other times we need more treatment, then I go to Retinol and Vitamin C creams by Environ. If you’re unsure how to make a change please check in for a free consultation with a Rescue aesthetician. Happy New Year and always remember ‘Beautiful Skin is a matter of choice, not chance.’
