Everything I Used To Get Perfect Skin On My Wedding Day – The Cut

“Celebrities are always raving about their facialists, but what about those of us who can’t afford to go to the spa every other day? Ashley introduced me to Rescue Spa, which has been a godsend. It’s reasonably priced, and owner Danuta Mieloch knows her shit. (Oh, and Naomi Campbell was casually checking out the first time I walked in.)

Mieloch has a realistic approach that’s easy to manage on your own. Her team recommended that I invest in steamer to cleanse and hydrate my skin, so I bought one from Dr. Dennis Gross. I set the 15-minute timer and leave it running when I cleanse my skin on weekends. Since I started using it, I’ve seen a real improvement in my pore size and skin texture.

The steamer opens my pores up for the Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant, which I leave on for 20 minutes. Read any reviews on this mask and you’ll know it’s got a cult following — for good reason. Within a month of steaming, my face stopped breaking out as much. I’d even lost all the pimples hidden underneath my skin’s surface, which I’d been trying to shed for months. When I wash this stuff off and immediately follow it with Vintner’s Daughter Oil, I look like I got a facial for half the price.”

How The Estheticians Do It: Rosacea

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition with no known cure.  It is most common in people of Irish, Scandinavian, and Eastern European dissent. The most common symptoms of Rosacea are redness, small bumps or pimples on the face.  It can also cause burning and a thickening of the skin. In some cases it can even effect the eyes. Its most common in women ages 30 and up. However men can suffer as well. Rosacea is NOT the same as acne but it can cause acneic breakouts.

So what can we do to control these symptoms?

The first line of defense is to get diagnosed by a dermatologist and see if you truly have Rosacea.  My personal experience with Rosacea has been difficult and long. I under went treatment from a doctor and I still have prescriptions when needed. The most common treatments are oral antibiotics and topical treatments such as metronidazole, bimonidine and azelaic acid.  As with all medications there are side effects and I have found other ways to treat my Rosacea. But in many cases combining prescriptions with proper skin care is key to controlling flare ups. I have found less is better when dealing with Rosacea. Growing up in a large Irish family I’ve seen first hand how horrible it can be if left untreated.  My grandmother would say “its your Irish coming out” but as a young person I never understood what that meant. I do now and my goal is to keep the red away as much as possible.  My skin has been my reason for becoming a Esthetician and it has given me the ability to manage my condition. There are no miracles or magic potions ( although P50 comes close ) but there are lots of options available.

Most effective treatments:

  • IPL or Laser Treatments to help reduce skin redness and inflammation.
  • Electrical Currents which help to increase circulation and stimulate collagen production.  Collagen production you will help to alleviate and reduce most redness and inflammation in the skin.
  • Microdermabrasion. I know it may seem harsh but it helps to facilitate new skin growth as well as stimulate lymph drainage.

Then of course there’s your home care routine.  I have found many products to help with Rosacea but by far my most helpful has been the Biologique Recherché skin care line.  They have botanical plant based ingredients that focus on balancing the skin.  Their products are paraben free with no artificial fragrances.

My top choices of products are:

  • Lait U: This cleanser is plant based with no fragrance and gentle enough for the most sensitive skin cleansing milk.
  • P50 V 1970: this balancing lotion is loaded with exfoliating ingredients to slough off dead cells and stimulate skin growth.  I personally started with the P50 V 1970 then eventually graduated to the original P50 1970 (the most effective formula).  Acids have the most effect on Rosacea due to their balancing of the ph of the epidermis.
  • At least once a week (after P50) I use Mask Vivant and Mask Vernix  to balance and calm the skin. Pro Tip: I mix them for optimal results!
  • Serums are my next choice due to their ability to penetrate deeper into the skin sans residue.  My favorites are Amniotique E. for its soothing and hydrating properties, and Serum Erythros which helps to strengthen the capillaries with B vitamins.
  • Daytime: Follow up with Emulsion Biosensible Gel S.R. which has hylarounic acid to hydrate and build collagen as well as regulate your sebum production.
Since excess sebum is the cause of breakouts associated with Rosacea this is ideal.  Last but most important is SPF.  My favorite is the Jan Marini SPF 33.  This SPF is light in nature and is gentle enough to use around the eye area.
  • Night: I opt for Environ C-Quence cream for bedtime.  Vitamin C helps build collagen and diffuse redness.  By adding vitamin C and vitamin A you will build new cells on a daily basis without the harshness of traditional retinol (vitamin A) products.

Things to avoid:

  • The sun! Use SPF diligently to prevent damage and aggravation.
  • Extreme temperatures. Hot and cold (PS always use lukewarm water on the face.)
  • Avoiding alcohol helps, although it is NOT the cause of Rosacea.
  • Spicy foods.
  • Harsh products/scrubbing.  These things will only inflame your blood vessels.

Of course there are more things that can trigger flare ups such as stress. I’ve found the best line of defense is to be consistent with treatments and home care. There may be no cure, but there is relief out there.  Come to see me or any of our talented Estheticians who can help to make a treatment plan for your specific needs.  I hope this was helpful to all my fellow Rosacea sufferers.  I am living proof that there is a way to treat and balance your skin!

Best Regards,

Esthetician ~ Connie Henry

How The Estheticians Do It: Jet Set Ready…

✈️  jet set ready  ✈️

by Diana Yerkes

I have been extremely lucky to continuously feed my passion for travel and I enjoy sharing stories from my adventures with the clients. One question that always comes up is how do I manage to keep my skin looking good and healthy while traveling. In this post, I would like to share my skincare secrets catered to frequent travelers’ needs.

When traveling, the skin can become rather dehydrated and flaky, not to mention that added stress associated with travel interrupts normal skin’s functions and leads to stubborn breakouts. To avoid that, my first tip is to always prepare your skin the night before.

STEP ONE: PREP

Treat yourself to a balancing masque such as Vivant by Biologique Recherche and apply an intense moisturizer to soothe and condition the skin. My moisturizer of choice is Dermopurifiante for its restorative and purifying properties.

STEP TWO: GO EASY ON MAKE UP

I advise to always travel with thoroughly clean and moisturized skin. Makeup is a no-go unless you are a fan of nasty breakouts.

STEP THREE: “BUILD YOUR OWN” SKIN EMERGENCY KIT

Travel smart with your skincare must-haves on hand. These are the products that I need to have in my kit at all times:

STEP FOUR: BE EFFICIENT EN ROUTE

  • Keep your skin and your body hydrated.
  • Moisturize before the take-off and freshen up your skin with every hour while in flight. L’eauxygenate.
  • Opt up for mineral water in lieu of a tropical cocktail.
  • Apply lip treatment liberally. 3LAB Perfect Lips offers intense and long-lasting hydration and it is my lip balm of choice.
  • Don’t forget your hands! Slather on hand cream such as Lippman Collection Rich Girl SPF25 for instant hydration and sun spots protection wile high in altitude and more exposed to damaging sun rays.

STEP FIVE: WAKE UP YOUR SKIN

Upon arrival, it is good to give your skin a thorough but gentle cleanse. I use Lait VIP O2 with a soft washcloth and I prefer to cleanse twice. Follow up with a thorough application of P50 1970 and a masque of your choice for 15-20 min. I choose to use a combination of Vivant with VIP O2 all over my face when I feel that my skin needs purifying. If flakiness/dullness is an issue, a massaging masque to improve microcirculation, such as Prime Renewing Pack by Valmont, is a life saver! Tip: Leave it overnight for an instant beauty boost.

 STEP SIX: ADDRESS THE EYES

As a result of a long haul flight, we are left with puffy and tired looking eyes. I suggest to use eye contour gel masques, such Gold Energizing Eye Recovery Mask by Chantecaille or Cellcollagen Eye Treatment Mask by Cellcosmet,-it acts as an automatic wake up call.

STEP SEVEN: UNLEASH THE EXPLORER INSIDE YOU

Get out there and build on your experiences, try new things and be adventurous!

There you have it- with these simple steps you can arrive at your destination and enjoy your vacation with beautiful, glowing and well-rested skin!

Cheers to the adventurer in all of us,

 Diana Yerkes

YouTube Tutorial: How To Multi-Mask

Do you want your skin care to work double duty? Then you need to try Multi Masking!
It’s SO easy to Multi-Mask with Masques Vivant & VIP O2

With increasing stress and pollution levels, most people no longer fit into just one basic skin type, making combination skin types more common and the sophistication of treatments more complex. Skin changes with the seasons and, with it, you need to adapt your regimen; simply using one mask to fix it all is not enough.

The solution? Multi Masking!

Having these BR masks in your at-home arsenal will prepare you to tackle whatever your skin has in store for you, no matter the season!

Masque Vivant is beautiful all around. It works on all skin types! Use it in the t-zone for a multi-masking purpose. It contains high concentrations of yeast, cucumber, and witch hazel extracts that give it purifying and balancing properties.

Masque VIP O2 is magical! Having an oxygenating effect, it is hydrating, radiance revealing and amazing for reducing dullness and fatigue in drier, stressed out skin. Use it under and around the eyes. The formula is rich in moisturizing botanical ingredients and contains an Oxygenating Complex which stimulates epidermal regeneration and revitalizes the skin. Imperative for city dwellers.

You can also MIX Vivant & VIP O2 masks. When combined they work double duty to hydrate, purify, balance, moisturize and oxygenate the skin.

YouTube Tutorial: Complete Skincare Regimen

A complete daily skincare regimen is the best way to achieve healthy, balanced, and glowing skin. Watch this Youtube video to as Rescue esthetician Joanna Kula shows us how it’s done!

Cleanse: “Any good skincare regime begins with proper cleansing. I advise everyone to develop a cleansing ritual, which will serve as the necessary foundation of good skincare. Without it, you simply cannot achieve healthy, beautiful skin. Everyone can benefit from using a mild cleanser like Biologique Recherche Lait U. ” –Danuta Mieloch, Rescue Spa Founder

Tone and Exfoliate: “A cult favorite, Biologique Recherche’s P50 1970 is a magic potion that does it all. It exfoliates, hydrates and balances the pH of the skin and it’s a prep step before any skincare. For those of you who prefer granule exfoliators over acidic formulas, opt for Valmont Face Scrub and massage gently into skin to slough off that layer of dead skin cells.” – DM

Plump, lift and hydrate: “Serums are the most potent elixirs, lighter in texture with deeper penetration than creams, and they are great for replenishing. They can also extend the life of injectables by replenishing moisture on the outer layer.” – DM

Moisturize: “All skin types need hydration and a moisturizer. A good moisturizer shields and protects your skin from harmful daily aggressors to keep it young and supple. It’s like wearing stockings in the winter; very sheer yet protective. Don’t forget to use eye cream and moisturize your entire body, too.” – DM

Protection: “Don’t forget to use SPF daily!”– DM

“Difficult” Skin

As the seasons change, and the weather becomes colder, keeping one’s skin can become quite a challenge. Personally my skin is in itself a challenge year round as I battle adult acne, redness, hyper pigmentation, and signs of aging. I have to admit, I am not one who loves creams or moisturizers for my skin personally because I already produce enough oils as it is. However, in the winter I do become a bit surface dry, my skin is visibly dry and sometime flaky.

Last year the senior aestheticians convinced me to give Dermopurifiante by Biologique Recherche a try. This cream is very purifying for oily/ combination skin which leaves my complexion unified and hydrated without feeling greasy.

dermopurifiante

Creme Dermopurifiante:

  • Purifies the skin with antibacterial active ingredients
  • Helps to regulate sebaceous secretions
  • Helps tighten pores
  • Softens skin blemishes

I actually love this cream to date and use it religiously as my night cream year round. However, I feel sometimes that it can be a bit much for daily use, this is when I discovered EMULSION GEL BIOSENSIBLE by Biologique Recherche. I have been using this gel daily for the past two weeks and I am loving it! After cleansing my skin, I apply P50, Serum VG Tensil (for firming), and finish with Emulsion Gel Biosensible. This preps my skin perfectly for my daily makeup application.

emulsiongel_biosensible (1)

Emulsion Gel Biosensible:

  • Reduces redness and relieves tight skin
  • Regulates oil production
  • Illuminates and evens out the complexion

This system seems to be working great for my skin type which has been called very difficult by some of the best estheticians, but it is the truth. I also practice what I preach and get a facial every four weeks. This is a must to keep my skin on track, and away from the Dr. with all his/her medications, creams, and pills. Last but not least I must mention, I also continue to mask my skin once a week with Mask VIVANT and use Retinol 1 by ENVIRON once a week at night!

“vivanting”

vivant
Vivant means living or alive in French and it’s no surprise why BR selected that name for one of its best performing masques. It’s packed with Yeast and Witch Hazel and is exceptional for purifying, balancing and brightening the skin. Masque Vivant is a regular in my routine and a few times a year I attempt a masque Vivant challenge that I am inviting you to also join!

Here are some quick tips for a successful “vivanting”:

Stay on a schedule. My masque Vivant challenge lasts 7 days; I start on Monday and finish on Sunday. Sticking to a week schedule helps to stay consistent.

Team up with a friend! There’s nothing more fun than sending one another Vivant selfies at night to make sure you both completed the challenge.

Do not stop half way! If you see a breakout or a pimple, do not stop. It’s a sign that your skin is clearing itself from all the impurities.

Keep up with the results. Once the challenge is over and you are left with  the renewed skin, don’t forget to use masque Vivant a few times a week.

How to get soft, glowing, summer skin AND the no-makeup makeup look.

1. Prepare the skin with a thorough cleansing.  We suggest massaging lait vip o2 onto dry skin (over makeup) for about a minute. Splash. Remove with a warm wet wash cloth or a konjac sponge  (replace monthly). Repeat for a double cleanse.

2. Gently exfoliate with a scrub such as Cellcomset’s Dual Exfoliant.  Massage onto dampened skin with light circular movements for 2-3 minutes to activate enzymes.

3. Tone/Hydrate/Balance/Lightly Peel the skin with P50 1970. Spend extra time with a P50 1970 soaked cotton round, being sure to tap inward and upward with light mechanical motions.  This movement ensures proper delivery of the product deep into the epidermis.  *You may notice a bit of tingling and pinkness which is perfectly normal.

4. Mask. 10-20 min.

  • Oily/Acne Prone Skin Types: Choose Mask Vivant  for deep pore cleansing, dissolving blackheads, and keeping breakouts at bay… it’s also very anti-aging. It’s not your typical clay mask, rather it’s a probiotic mask and also gives the skin a great glow.
    • Here’s a helpful tip: Try adding a pinch of baking soda and drop of water to the mask vivant to alkalize it if you have very stubborn blackheads or breakouts. Apply only to the areas, such as your nose, that need it.  Also excellent to use daily!
  • Combination Skin Types: Spot treat oily areas with Mask Vivant and dry or normal areas with Mask VIP O2 (even over the eye area). It’s hydrating and oxygenating. Anti-aging and antipollution!
  • Dry Skin: Opt for Creme Masque Vernix. It gives the skin a “second birth”.

5.  Replenish. Apply serum Renovateur 14 first and Serum Complexe Royal second.  Finish with Serum Fluide VIP O2.  Your skin will be positively radiant by this point but you’re not quite  done…

6. Swap your heavy moisturizer for something lightweight such as Gel ADN Silkgen.

*Very dry skin types: try layering Serum silk plus on top of the Gel ADN Silkgen

7. Protect.  SPF daily! By now we all know how important this step is. Sun exposure is the number one cause of aging and damage to the skin.

Switch your makeup for something lighter such as the By Terry Cellularose CC Cream.  For a lit from within rosy glow opt for a gel blush such as By Terry’s Cellularose Blush Glace. Add a swipe of By Terry Hyaluronic Rouge Lipstick across the lips for a spring forward look that is perfectly fresh and pretty!
