Danuta’s Winter Essentials

It’s important to take special care of your skin in the winter. Here are a few things you can do to keep skin moist and healthy all season long…

  • Use a humidifier when the air is dry.
  • Put moisturizer and oil on your body immediately after bathing.
Create a ritual of applying oils like Body Oxygenant followed by MSRH Corps.
  • Wear natural fibers, such as cotton and silk, because they allow your skin to breathe.
  • Cover up when the air is dry, to hold moisture in.
  • Focus on proper nutrition and drinking plenty of water.
  • Avoid things that trigger allergic reactions. Use detergent free of dyes and perfumes.
  • Mature and drier skin types should apply and reapply moisturizer to lock in moisture.
  • Let’s not forget hands (telltale sign of age). Apply hand cream and cuticle oil often.
  • Don’t forget to wear gloves while doing home chores and while outdoors.
  • Practice a good skincare regimen:
  1. Dry skin can happen at any age, but it’s most likely a concern if you’re 50 or older. This is because the glands that make oil for your skin get smaller as you age and produce less.  Many popular soaps and cleansers “clean” your skin by removing oil. This strips the skin, which often causes dryness or breakouts to worsen. At Rescue we always recommend a gentle milky cleanser like Lait VIP o2. Use with a washcloth to buff away dry flaky skin and reveal the fresh skin that lies beneath. Washcloths are super gentle on the skin and most importantly, they don’t cost much. 🙂

  2. Once your skin is properly cleansed it is extremely important to balance the pH of your skin. Our favorite product for this step is Lotion P50 1970.During the winter I personally use P50 1970 at night and P50W in the daytime (this gentler formula is fantastic for winter). *A reminder to the health conscious: all Biologique Recherche products are paraben-free and safe to use.

  3. After you’ve applied P50 follow with a hylarounic acid based serum to keep skin plump, hydrated and, yes, looking younger! Babies are born with a high level of hyaluronic acid, which keeps their skin plump and smooth. Unfortunately, the amount of hyaluronic acid in skin diminishes with age, most significantly after age 40. While it may not be possible to maintain perfectly dewy baby-skin, these serums help to restore the skin’s hyaluronic acid content. Applied topically hyaluronic acid increases hydration, improves elasticity, and reverses free radical damage. All skin types, even oily, will benefit from using hyaluronic acid serum. *For those who get injectables it prolongs the plumping effect.

LayerWinter skincare is like your winter wardrobe, it’s all about layers! I always layer my serums, starting with the lightest texture and finishing with the thickest. Here is my current mix of serums and creams for daytime: AmniotiqueLe Grand Serum, Yall o2, Creme Dermo RL, and Fluide VIP O2.

  4. Your evening routine is another story. Winter is time to bust out the big game changers like MBR’s liquid surgery serum, followed by MBR Extraordinary Cream. Mind you I’m over 50 and the names alone provide a feel-good-factor (I’ll take liquid surgery anytime, no pain or risk involved).

For younger gals I suggest Environ’s Cquence 3 serum. It’s packed with peptides, vitamins, and retinol to address antiaging in one simple step.

I also highly recommend keeping the skin challenged by alternating your regimen every other night. Currently I’m alternating MBR Extraordinary cream with BR Le Grand Creme (*available in January).

For a dry skin solution I love Vintners Daughter Active Botanical Serum – a clean beauty favorite of celebrities. It has a loyal following for good reason. This cult product is a powerful sustainably crafted oil that delivers skin all the essentials, moisture, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants.

Valmont Regenera II is another winter staple. It’s a rich cream-balm that solves dry skin, lips, cuticles, patches, etc. Love… love… love!

  5. Rescue Spa Facials are always geared to problem solve. Whether it’s dry skin, brown spots, redness, irritation, or inflamed acne, Rescue Facials are always customized to focus on what your skin needs. With the right combination of products and high-tech tools, our estheticians can really create change in the skin over time to help you achieve your greatest complexion.

  6. Last but not least. Cold weather is the best time to develop healthy rituals and ceremonies. Taking care of my skin is a daily practice.
Create your own magic, have fun in your mini beauty apothecary ….
    Light a candle….
    Mask often….
    Take a bath…
    Breathe….
Get cozy in slippers and wrap up in cashmere …..
Practice self love, cultivate wellbeing, sing, dance and feel like a goddess ….

Happy Winter :)))

Like a Facial in a Bottle!

” A cult favorite, P50 is a magic potion that does it all. Exfoliates, Hydrates, and Balances the pH of the skin, it’s a prep step before any skincare.” – Danuta Mieloch

We recommend P50 for everyone, even those with super sensitive skin (should use P50V a milder version). P50 “1970” is the most effective and most commonly used formula of P50. If you are still unsure which formula is most suitable for you please contact us so that we may assist you.

What is the connection between PH and good skin?
Epidermal PH is usually acid reflecting the good status of the natural moisturizing factor, and the acid mantle of the skin (anti-microbial shield and chemical protection screen). However, the epidermis PH may vary considerably during the day, suffering from different artifacts. Epidermal surface PH is difficult to monitor and not always the best parameter for assessing the health of epidermis.

What makes the skin tingle when using P50?
When the epidermis is unbalanced, patients feel the acidity of the solution, causing the skin-tingling sensation. Once you reach a balance, this sensation will disappear.

What is the meaning of the name P50?
The P can be used for potion or peeling (the first name of the product was Lotion P1970, then P50, P50V, and P50W were developed).

PARABEN FREE

Sizes: 1.07 oz (Travel) / 5.1 oz. / 8.5 oz.

*We recommend P50 (sans phenol) while pregnant or breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor if you wish to continue using P50 1970 while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Victoria Roggio: My favorite top 5 Summer Products

Foundations and tinted moisturizers are the make-or-break products when it comes to your cosmetic arsenal. A great foundation can mean the difference between a flawless and effortless complexion and a streaky, cakey, runny catastrophe. Picking out just the right foundation for all skin types is something that I have down to a science. So I’ve compiled a list of my favorites that you can find at the Rescue Spa, as well as some amazing products that you can enjoy during the summer time while you are on vacation or just spending the time in the city.

1. A great base for your foundation or just a nice day serum is the BY TERRY CellularRose Brightening Serumthis multi-unifying, anti-aging corrective and radiance boosting serum adds luminosity and glow to your skin . BY TERRY Laboratories are using for the first time the Native White Rose Cells in an exclusive technology. The WT+1 technology is extremely moisturizing, its silky formula smoothes and refines the skin’s texture, diminishes signs of aging (wrinkles, fine lines, lack of firmness) and leaves the skin clear for deep-down, long-lasting radiance.

2. Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer (Chantecaille)- Leaves skin looking glowy, evens out and corrects the skin tone lightly. Depending on the moisturizer used underneath, skin can look very dewy, or slightly glowing. I really like using underneath Nature by Valmont “Energizing with a cream Moisturizer”. This gives great coverage for a tinted moisturizer, I would say light to medium (medium for a tinted moisturizer) and is really buildable.  It smooths over dry patches or flakey skin and doesn’t accentuate flaws at all. Looks very natural, like second skin. It’s very moisturizing and leaves a soft dewy never oily-looking finish.

3. St. Barth’s Compact Soleil Bronzer (Chantecaille)- it is a great bronzer, works well for all skin tones. It imparts a beautiful, sun-kissed look that’s light and perfect for those who fear bronzers. St. Barth’s is a sheer brown that will leave us pale faces with a natural look, one that doesn’t scream, “Bronzer!” The shade was inspired by Chantecaille’s Le Tigre Bronzer. Compact Soleil captures the wonderful effects of the sun without any of the harmful effects of UV rays. This incredibly natural-looking bronzer is the result of the latest micronizing technology that creates an ultra-fine powder with a silky, glowing finish. Gingko biloba and wild rose work together to heal and protect the skin, leaving it smooth and radiant. It’s cruelty-free, with no animal derivatives, paraben-free, and fragrance-free.

4.  BY TERRY Gloss Terrybly Shine is an ultra-shiny, lifting-firming, volumizing lip lacquer  that will plump up your smile with a long-lasting radiance. An age-defense “Lumilip” technology combines “nutri-regenerating” ceramides, hyaluronic acid (for moisture), and a collagen-stimulating peptide Here’s the rundown with more about the technology from BY TERRY.  For a “Push-Up Effect,” kiss-me-quick extract (huh?) regenerates, nourishes, hydrates, and creates volume and redefines lip contours. I believe “kiss me quick” is a plant extract that offers wrinkle-blurring prisms of color. For a “Hydra-Lift Effect,” hyaluronic acid microspheres plump, fill the hollows in the lips, and add volume to the lips. For a “Lift-Firming Effect,” ceramides restructure, firm, redensify, and maintain the lips’ hydration.

5. UV in Cellium Spray (Institut Esthederm) –  I absolutely love this product, the spray is designed for use on the face at any time of the day, but especially when outdoors for its protective purposes. You can use before, and after makeup/skincare application. I use a quick burst after cleansing to provide a little moisture, and then again after make up application. I was a little skeptical at first but the spray does actually help to fix my makeup and keep it in place all day, not to mention giving my skin a more healthy radiant glow throughout. It’s really nice to use on a hot day to give your skin a quick cool down and refresh.  Not only do I use it on my face but I’ve been using it on my neck/chest and arms before going outdoors, as these are the areas of my skin which are on show the most and it has a natural SPF factor 8. I really like how its so quick and easy to use and sinks into the skin so quickly, without the need to rub in.

Love the skin you’re in

The skin is the body’s largest organ. It’s your body’s first line of defense from external factors and has many important functions it protects you from the environment, helps maintain body temperature, etc.  Skin being thinnest on the eyelids and thickest on the palms of hands and soles of feet.  Truly skin is our most visible asset — especially in the summer when we show a lot of it off!

Today I’m going to talk about exfoliation, the key to great skin. I recommend an old fashioned but very effective method, dry brushing.  It increases circulation, assists the skin in excreting toxins, encourages healing, stimulates, helps lymphatic drainage, and sheds dead skin cells, all of which can improve skin texture and cell renewal.  When dry brushing make sure you use a natural bristle brush, always brushing towards the heart with sweeping strokes starting from the bottom at the feet, overlapping and repeating movements.  Follow with a shower, using alternate water temperatures and always finish with a cold rinse.  Immediately afterwards apply body oil on damp skin.  Do this as often as you can, especially while doing a juice cleanse (these are super popular right now).   I also recommend using a body scrub at least twice a week.  After the summer months you can begin to incorporate alpha beta hydroxy lotions as well as oils containing retinol such as Environ’s AVST hydrating lotion and body oil, but remember these two products should not be used during times when you will have sun exposure.

For regular cleansing make sure you use a body cleansing gel rather than soap as it better respects the body pH level.   Daily skin hydration is as important for the body as it is for facial skin.  Rescue has a large selection of paraben-free, eco friendly, body products (which we prefer).  Professional body treatments are also a great way to take care of your body.  My choice would be a body scrub and detoxifying mud wrap, followed by massage.  A whole body nirvana!

Staff Pick: Dayna Decker Collection

Trendsetting designer Dayna Decker has not just developed mere candles and hand soap for your guest room, but alluring multi-sensory experiences. Her products are absolutely perfect when you to need a mini-escape after a chilly commute home or a bit of atmosphere while away for a romantic rendezvous. Dayna fuses innovation and eco-responsibility to her collections. All bath and body products are animal friendly and free of harsh chemicals such as cringe-worthy parabens. Natural fruit enzymes and wood extracts are used as an alternative to nourish and protect the skin instead of turning you into a walking preservative. I particularly adore the eco-wood wick used in my favorite hand-blown Bardou scented Botanika Chandel. Organic wood is naturally manufactured into a slow burning wick with an intriguing teardrop flame. The botanical wax enriched with wild rose and pink peppercorn essence melts clear creating a peaceful glow. Best of all the wood makes a soft crackling sound as it burns, like a portable fireplace.

Not into candles? The Dayna Decker line also offers handcrafted botanical oil diffusers for those adverse to open flames. The alcohol-free essential oils within the vessel last up to six months in your home or office. Whether you are seeking peace from the madness of everyday or need a bit of luxury in your life the Dayna Decker collection has something for everyone.
