We all want baby-soft skin, but what about baby hair? Babies have gorgeous (and natural!) subtle highlights. Fortunately #babylights are trending, and one of the best ways for grownups to steal the look!
Not sure if babylights are for you?
If you have very fine hair and want noticeable highlights but nothing as dramatic as ombré or as thick as balayage then babylights are the answer. The result is subtle but beautiful.
Still not sure?
Schedule an appointment with Barbarann Lathropp and she will help you achieve the color of your dreams.

Rescue Spa Esthetician,
Via Travel Industry Today 15 NOV 2016:
This month is the 40th anniversary of the first “Rocky” movie created and starred in by Sylvester Stallone. Back in 1976, Rocky was too busy working out and securing a boxing title to care about how his face looked or if his battle worn hands and nails used for punching opponents could use a good buff or his feet a soothing soak and clip. Rescue Spa in Philadelphia can provide some welcome relief to both Rocky and I and our aging bodies.
Stallone, now 70 years old, amazing still maintains his macho physique and persona. Despite his machismo he probably wouldn’t be averse to a little self-preservation of the facial and mani-pedi kind.
On a recent trip to Philadelphia while visiting various attractions and filling my tummy with culinary delights like cheesesteaks (hold the cheese please), pretzels, tomato pie and spicy Mexican dishes, I dedicated some time for a spa escape. With the colder and drier weather approaching and a rash of sleepless nights, the face was looking a little like Rocky after a few rounds – just not as battered and bloody but definitely puffy.
Unfortunately the ravages of age do occur as I’m in the boomer stage of life. Rescue Spa, opened in Philadelphia in 2004 in Center City (what Philly calls downtown). Its central location attracts visitors and locals alike. Located on the 3rd floor of an office building on Walnut Street, the 7,500 square foot spa has added space as the demand and clientele grows and plans to open up another spa in New York in 2017.
The facility features ten treatment rooms for body and facial treatments, infrared saunas, brow room, hair salon, steam room, locker rooms, nail lounge, relaxation lounge, beauty boutique and cafe bar.
Polish born owner Danuta Mieloch explains her philosophy on skincare and why she opened up Rescue Spa. “For the first half of your life you get the skin you were born with but for the second half, you get the skin you deserve. I created Rescue to help you get what you deserve: healthy, glowing, radiant skin. Because beautiful skin is a matter of choice, not chance.”
Mieloch and many of the staff walk the talk as it looks like they have not left silky smooth skin to chance. There was much beauty in this eye of the beholder!
The spa’s atmosphere is a blend of airy casual elegance with its bespoke furniture and eclectic wall art. The gray toned flooring and walls provide a sophisticated and gender-neutral feel. With the exception of the boutique area filled with a variety of skincare products overall the spa is welcoming to male clientele. As a guy it is refreshing not to be bombarded in the relaxation lounge by the latest issues of Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Allure, Redbook and more and not one male-oriented magazine. Instead in the lounge’s warm confines, there are comfy chairs where you can unwind with an erudite collection of books they have featured on a bookshelf while you can sip on tea, fruit or cucumber infused waters.
Mieloch’s Rescue Spa has won many accolades and it is known as the place in Philly for the best facial. Mieloch mixes the old with the new, the science with the holistic.
“We see the face first. It has to last a lifetime,” Mieloch explains. “For me, it’s not simply about skin. Your face is how you present yourself to the world.”
Right now my face is a living and walking billboard telling everyone I need more sleep and need to reduce my everyday stress.
I’m a perfect candidate for their signature Bio Lift Facial. Shannon, my experienced and personable aesthetician greets me with a warm smile and we go into the treatment room. After leaving the room and returning after I change the Q and A begins and she flicks on the powerful probing light to see what facial skin problems lay ahead. She does a thorough analysis: a few blackheads here and there, a bit of rosacea on my chin, skin dryness and puffiness under my eyes – but overall not too bad. Thankfully Shannon held back about my rapidly receding hairline – she’s skilled but not a miracle worker and treating men’s hair loss is not in her repertoire.
The 60-minute Bio-Lift Facial combines many different elements: a deep cleansing, extractions (fun, wow), exfoliation, lifting facial massage, application of masks and serums. Ingredients are determined depending on your skin type. They add the most advanced technology of non-invasive electric currents. This helps in the reducing wrinkles, puffiness and droopy eyelids. I’ve been accused of being droopy in my lifetime but not my eyelids. Thankfully since I am careful about the sun, the onslaught of wrinkles is minimal. Puffiness under the eyes? Now that I can claim I have in spades!
Shannon, with her rhythmic hand and finger movements, applies a dizzying array of cleansers, serums, and moisturizers to my face obviously feels passionate about what she does and explains with each application why it helps the skin feel like new again. One of the spa’s biggest sellers is Biologique Recherche Lotion P50. What owner Mieloch describes as, “Like a facial in a bottle.”
Following my facial I venture over to the mani-pedi area. It’s been a while since I’ve had a mani-pedi. The transfer of pampering now rests with Kelly, a bubbly and feisty Italian aesthetician with soft, welcoming hands.
Kelly puts my hands and then my feet at ease with relaxing and soothing soaks. She buffs the nails (no polish necessary!) while we engage in seamless conversations from the US election, skincare, best places to eat and drink in Philly, relationships with our respective loved ones, Canada and how my big toe nails got so discoloured. The fact she didn’t gag when she saw them earned her big points (and a good tip) with me.
Philly has plenty of attractions for you to discover whether it’s on the cultural side with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rodin Museum, it’s vibrant culinary scene, urban adventures from river rowing, hiking, mountain biking, or rich history with the Independence Hall and Liberty Bell. But if you are in Philly and in need of getting back some vitality don’t call 911 – just visit Rescue Spa. Take the first step back to good health.
Thanks to Rescue Spa I was now ready to tackle 72 more steps – the famous “Rocky Steps” and “face” the world again.

For those that can’t read Spanish here is a (super) rough Google translation:
To follow maltratándonos with Caro we went straight to our invitation to Rescue Spa. A very exclusive Spa in downtown Philly where its owner (Danuta Mieloch, beautiful polish with more than 20 years in USA) decided to do something well done for All the women. The spa features services: manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, makeup, eyebrow shaping, sauna, steam showers, coffee bar and snacks and a boutique with the best anti-aging creams.
Vida Colon, an American Latina with an enviable skin, made the tour of the wonders of all brands of French and Swiss origin that has Rescue. Between these feature Cellcosmet, Valmont and Biologique Recherche (the favorite of the owner, so I have many expectations placed on it). Cellcosmet is Swiss and uses cells preserved for lighting and skin rejuvenation and Valmont also cell targets more cosmetic components using glacier water.
But overall Rescue has more than 30 exclusive brands and very “high end” that be honest you do not know where to start!
We started so important: a shaped eyebrows with awarded by Vogue Magazine, Maria Gulraiz. Very talented and passionate, Maria outlined eyebrows and taught with a passion that I have rarely seen. And while it was his good time in my eyebrows (also dyed with natural henna to give me a look more density) the result was perfect! My mom has always taken me away from those eyebrows thin almost drawn, and Maria shares the philosophy that a thick eyebrow and well profiled gives a youthful and natural appearance.
And to end our stay of almost 3 hours in the spa, we found an exquisite sauna and were clothed in white robes.
We had the most perfect manicure I’ve in these lands. Today, more than 2 weeks have gone even have it in my hands as I write (a miracle).
Definitely the experience was amazing and one can hardly accustom with Rescue excellence Spa. I miss at least.
“Rescue Spa is one of my absolute favorite websites to buy niche, luxury beauty products. The renown Philadelphia spa sells coveted, hard-to-find European brands like Valmont, Biologique Recherche and Institut Esthederm.
But what truly sets Rescue Spa apart from other purveyors is their incredibly personal, responsive online assistance. It’s unrivaled: live, one-on-one online skincare chats, every Monday through Friday at shoprescuespa.com. Rescue’s cult online following is worldwide, but many people don’t realize the e-shop was borne out of Rescue’s brick and mortar spa in the heart of Philadephia’s chic Rittenhouse Square.
Founder Danuta Mieloch is a force in the skincare field—she trained in Paris under Dr. Yvan Allouche, creator of Biologique Recherche product line. I had the opportunity to meet her and her amazing team at the striking 7,500 square foot spa recently. They are all so luminous, I just wanted to move in and become part of their glowy sisterhood. I am already planning a retreat back with some girlfriends. Yes, it’s 100 miles away from New York City—it’s that special.
Rescue Spa is a quiet, hidden gem—you are transported the moment you walk through the door. The peaceful ambience is the result of sleek design and a warm aesthetic, with an air of respect for the serious pampering that goes on.
I was treated to a Biolift Facial with Shannon Robb. She thoroughly evaluated my skin (tired, dull, and inflamed) and used the uber amazing Biologique Recherche line of products during my treatment, as well as the line’s proprietary skin tightening machine. It was the best facial I have ever had. Not only did I feel amazing afterward, I looked markedly refreshed, my skin tighter and brighter. Even my husband said so, which you must understand, means it’s definitely true. After the treatment, I asked Shannon to recommend a regime of products to use as I had run out of most everything anyway. She thoughtfully prescribed a plan and I have been dutifully following it. You would too, if you saw her skin. (All hail P50.)
If you happen to be in Philadelphia on 9/22, the spa is celebrating all day with champagne, samples, trial treatments and discounts. And all day, Rescue Spa is offering 10% off their amazing brands that are hardly ever found on sale. Just use the code “HAPPY10″. Go take a look around, take advantage of their personal online service (Hi, Kim!) and get inspired.”

I see clients on a daily basis. During the initial consultation I often notice the tell signs of dehydration; dark circles, fine lines, pigmentation and acne are more than skin deep. Great skin is a reflection of what one puts in their body (digestion) as well as how one takes care of their skin.
1) Cleanse gently.
2) Exfoliate with the p50 formula appropriate for your skin type (essential to balance the pH of your skin and to ensure proper hydration).
3) Use a hyaluronic acid serum like Valmont’s hydra3 regenetic or Biologique Recherche’s Serum Yall o2 to keep skin plump & hydrated and, yes, looking younger.
Babies are born with a high level of hyaluronic acid, which keeps their skin plump and smooth. Unfortunately, the amount of hyaluronic acid in skin diminishes with age, most significantly after age 40. While it’s not possible to maintain that perfect dewy baby-skin, it is possible to help restore the skin’s hyaluronic acid content and give grown-up skin a younger, fresher, smoother, more supple and hydrated look. Applied topically it increases hydration, improves elasticity and also reverses free radical damage. For those who get injectables hyaluronic acid prolongs the plumping effect. All skin types, even oily, can benefit from using hyaluronic acid serum.
To maintain optimal hydration we need to focus on proper nutrition and drinking plenty of water. Water is the body’s principal chemical component and makes up about 60% of our body weight. All systems and organs in our bodies depend on water. We need water even for healthy bones. As much as 75% of the body weight of a newborn infant is water, whereas some adults are as little as 45% water by weight. When you become dehydrated the body pulls water from your tissues (skin) to maintain the concentration in your blood. When this happens your eyes may look sunken, skin may feel drier it’s not going to be as elastic or supple, and so you will look much older.
The first symptom of dehydration is not thirst, it’s usually fatigue, feeling tired.
Healing with water is legendary… staying hydrated properly is scientifically proven to be essential.
At Rescue we emphasize the importance of hydration. We prepare infused water daily and offer it to clients upon their arrival. We offer two choices that I recommend to everyone to make at home as well:
1) Filtered ionized water infused with orange, cucumber and mint.
2) Filtered ionized water infused with lemon and lime (my favorite beauty booster in the morning).
As for nutrition (Philadelphia has amazing produce markets) try to incorporate a variety of seasonal vegetables, fruits, local fish, meats and cheeses. Avoid processed food, sugars, white flour, soda, and hydrogenated fats to maintain a healthy body and skin. Focus on incorporating healthy protein, whole grains, skin healthy fats like omegas 3, 6, & 9 from foods like avocado & coconut, as well as probiotics to maintain a healthy digestive system. A healthy liver is responsible for healthy skin.
Here I’d like to share my “Skin Glow” juice recipe. I use an Omega juicer, but any juicer will do the trick. 🙂
A few sprigs of Parsley
2 stalks of Celery
A handful of Kale
1/2 a Lemon
1 small piece of Ginger
Most brides who have their wedding makeup professionally done opt to do a trial run before the big day. This is a great idea, it ensures that you and your makeup artist are on the same page beforehand, so you don’t end up looking like a totally different person. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your makeup trial:
1. Book Your Makeup Trials Well In Advance
Don’t make the mistake of leaving your bridal makeup trials to the last minute, after all you want your face be as perfect as your gown. Start your trials as much as 12 months, and at least 3 months, before your wedding day. Then be prepared to meet again in the weeks leading up to the wedding to do a run-through.
2. Dress the Part
Wear a white top and have your hair trial maybe on the same day with your makeup trial, that way you will be able to easily visualize your entire bridal look.
3. Bring Pictures
This is obvious, but it’s incredibly helpful to see everything you like in one place so you can pinpoint the similarities between the looks that you’d like to replicate. Is it the glowing skin? The strong eyebrows? The shades of shadow? If possible, try to include photos of women who look somewhat similar to you. It’s much harder for both you and your makeup artist to envision how you want the makeup on your bronzed skin to look if you’ve only brought pictures of fair-skinned beauties. It is always helpful to have some photos of yourself with makeup looks you really like.
3. Natural Is Not Always Best
Keep in mind that the best makeup artist has many objectives: how you look in person; what is going to suit the lenses of the photographer and videographer; what makeup works in a variety of lights – natural indoors and outdoors as well as day and night; plus of course what brings out your best features and the style of the hair and gown.
3. Speak Up and Be Open-Minded
While it’s great to have an idea of what you want, it also helps to go in with an open mind. Determine your non-negotiables ahead of time—you will not wear dark lipstick or black eyeliner, for example—so you can remain open to other suggestions, like trying a different eye makeup or having your eyebrows filled in. If you hate it, don’t hesitate to say something! Pretending you love it isn’t fair to you or the makeup artist, who likely wants to please you. We are here to help you in any way possible and make you happy with the final results.
4. Photograph The Results
This helps you get a feel of how your makeup will look in your wedding day photos. Remember: Makeup can translate very differently once captured on camera. By taking some self portraits once you jump out of the chair and throughout the day/night you’ll then be able to review how the makeup worked for the camera, be it an amateurs, and also workout what you will need for touchups. Remember Hair and Makeup isn’t permanent so changes can always be made and it’s important for both parties that you leave happy and excited!
Above all have fun with your trials, you will walk away with new tricks and products that will probably change your outlook on beauty for life!!!
