Body Acne and How to Treat It

dealing with acne on your body…

~

It’s already hard enough when you have to deal with acne on your face, but dealing with acne on your body is another story.

For some of us, skin breakouts can be more far reaching than the face, influencing bigger territories of the body. It normally happens on the back, midsection, neck, shoulders, and upper arms. We spend most of our AM and PM skincare regmen concentrating on the face, neck and décolletage. It is time we start paying attention to our back and work on getting the skin on our back “summer-ready”.

Back acne, simply called bacne, can be very hard to fix. There are a lot of products that are acne fighting and work really really well on the face, but your back does not respond as well to them. Even though the root causes of blemishes are basically the same in both places (face and back), the skin on your face is very different from the skin on your back. The skin on the back is thicker than the skin on the face which means the back is more resilient, can handle stronger treatments and exfoliants that would be considered too harsh for the face.

Here are some of my favorite products that are more specialized and easy to use.

  • Biologique Recherche P50 Corps – the gentle retexturizing formula is great for eradicating pores, smoothing away rough patches, and boosting hydration levels. It balances skin PH and regulates oil production,-perfect for treating your back and the whole body.
  • Gounjae Charcoal Sulfur Soap – amazing handcrafted  bar soap from South Korea. Charcoal sulfur soap targets oily and troubled skin.
  • Environ B-Active Sebuwash Cleanser – a foaming, gel cleanser that gently removes excess oils and environmental debris without drying the skin. Great for oily, problematic and congested skins and with the help of Tea Tree oil and Salicilic Acid it’s perfect for combating stubborn blemishes on your body.
  • Environ Multivitamin Body Moisturiser – with high concentration of Vitamin A, C and E and antioxidants, leaves skin revitalized, radiant, even toned and smooth.
  • Environ Dermalac Lotion – contains AHAs for use on rough, congested skin.

Tools:

  • Baudelaire Cedar Bath Brush – perfect,100% boar-bristles whole body brush that stimulates circulation and speeds up acne healing.
  • Morihata Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel – removes toxins and excess oil and leaves the skin revitalized and refreshed.
  • Aquis Exfoliating Back Scrubber – helps improve skin texture and reduces bacne. It deep cleans and polishes that hard to reach back side, improves circulation and skin tone, all while removing impurities.
  • Lightstim for Acne – soothes, heals and prevents new acne from forming while healing existing breakouts.

Quick Lifestyle Tips:

  • The shorter the time between exercising and showering, the better for your skin. No shower access, no problem. Sensibio H2O Wipes by Bioderma are awesome for cleansing on the go.
  • Wear loose, breathable, clean clothes.
  • Use mild, fragrance-free detergents.
  • Clean up your diet and remember to hydrate.

A combination of these products and tools will leave bacne no chance!

Cheers to clear skin,

How The Estheticians Do It: Jet Set Ready…

I have been extremely lucky to continuously feed my passion for travel and I enjoy sharing stories from my adventures with the clients. One question that always comes up is how do I manage to keep my skin looking good and healthy while traveling. In this post, I would like to share my skincare secrets catered to frequent travelers’ needs.

When traveling, the skin can become rather dehydrated and flaky, not to mention that added stress associated with travel interrupts normal skin’s functions and leads to stubborn breakouts. To avoid that, my first tip is to always prepare your skin the night before.

STEP ONE: PREP

Treat yourself to a balancing masque such as Vivant by Biologique Recherche and apply an intense moisturizer to soothe and condition the skin. My moisturizer of choice is Dermopurifiante for its restorative and purifying properties.

STEP TWO: GO EASY ON MAKE UP

I advise to always travel with thoroughly clean and moisturized skin. Makeup is a no-go unless you are a fan of nasty breakouts.

STEP THREE: “BUILD YOUR OWN” SKIN EMERGENCY KIT

Travel smart with your skincare must-haves on hand. These are the products that I need to have in my kit at all times:

STEP FOUR: BE EFFICIENT EN ROUTE

  • Keep your skin and your body hydrated.
  • Moisturize before the take-off and freshen up your skin with every hour while in flight. L’eauxygenate.
  • Opt up for mineral water in lieu of a tropical cocktail.
  • Apply lip treatment liberally. 3LAB Perfect Lips offers intense and long-lasting hydration and it is my lip balm of choice.
  • Don’t forget your hands! Slather on hand cream such as Lippman Collection Rich Girl SPF25 for instant hydration and sun spots protection wile high in altitude and more exposed to damaging sun rays.

STEP FIVE: WAKE UP YOUR SKIN

Upon arrival, it is good to give your skin a thorough but gentle cleanse. I use Lait VIP O2 with a soft washcloth and I prefer to cleanse twice. Follow up with a thorough application of P50 1970 and a masque of your choice for 15-20 min. I choose to use a combination of Vivant with VIP O2 all over my face when I feel that my skin needs purifying. If flakiness/dullness is an issue, a massaging masque to improve microcirculation, such as Prime Renewing Pack by Valmont, is a life saver! Tip: Leave it overnight for an instant beauty boost.

 STEP SIX: ADDRESS THE EYES

As a result of a long haul flight, we are left with puffy and tired looking eyes. I suggest to use eye contour gel masques, such Gold Energizing Eye Recovery Mask by Chantecaille or Cellcollagen Eye Treatment Mask by Cellcosmet,-it acts as an automatic wake up call.

STEP SEVEN: UNLEASH THE EXPLORER INSIDE YOU

Get out there and build on your experiences, try new things and be adventurous!

There you have it- with these simple steps you can arrive at your destination and enjoy your vacation with beautiful, glowing and well-rested skin!

Cheers to the adventurer in all of us,
