Fall in Love with Self-Care with These Easy Practices

Self-care has become something of a puzzle to many of us. No matter how much we talk about it and say we want to practice more, it somehow manages to slip through the cracks of our busy lives. But caring for yourself doesn’t have to be so hard. There are so many ways to integrate more self-care into our lives and help us all to feel more positive and confident in ourselves. These are a few of our favorite practices that make it easy to keep up with our self-care and feel the amazing effects that come along with it.

Find a good skincare routine
Good skincare is an essential part of taking care of ourselves. There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning to find a fresh zit in the middle of your forehead or that you have dark circles under your eyes. Finding a good skincare regimen will help to make those moments few and far between so you can wake up every day feeling refreshed and bright, helping you to always put your best face forward.

Pamper yourself
Make a point of taking a day or a weekend once a month to completely indulge in treating yourself to something that makes you feel elegant and relaxed. Make an appointment at your favorite spa for a day of mani-pedis, massages, and treatments entirely for yourself. It is so important to take the time to remove ourselves from our busy worlds and zone into our own minds and bodies. What better way to do that than a day of pampering and complete relaxation?

Wear comfortable clothes
Nothing is more frustrating than spending the entire day fidgeting and pulling at your clothes because they are so uncomfortable. No one likes jeans that dig in or a bra that feels like it’s cutting off your circulation. It is crucial to find clothes that fit and feel good on your body. Instead of wearing those tight pants, opt for a flowy dress that makes you feel pretty and lets you breathe. Rather than squeezing into that push-up bra you always wear, put on a super comfy one instead.

Take time to unplug
We live in a world that is completely run by screens. We can’t even go to the bathroom without bringing our phones along with us. Although our technology is a huge and important part of our lives, there is such a thing as being too connected all the time. Take some time to go for a walk without your phone or headphones, sit on the porch and read a good book, or even spend a whole weekend in the woods with no cell or internet connection. Taking even 30 minutes a day to completely unplug and disconnect from our digital worlds, can make such a huge difference in our lives.

It can be so easy to get wrapped up in our demanding lives. We are busier than ever before and putting more on our plates than we ever have. With so much packed into our schedules, it isn’t hard for our self-care routines to get lost in the mess. Fitting in some small things that can easily become part of our regular routine is one of the best ways to add some self-care in and help us to be our best selves at all times.

Your A-to-Z Guide to Skin Care Today via WSJ

THE CULT OF skin care seems to have reached a fever pitch, with women (and men) accumulating costly, pleasingly packaged products to arrange in their bathrooms at a new pace. Self-taught enthusiasts, known as the “skintelligentsia,” exchange hyper-detailed info about ingredients and regimens in Sephora comment sections and on Reddit Subs like “Skin Care Addiction.” Ingredient apps like Think Dirty help aficionados weigh the difference between mugwort and St. John’s wort. If you’re more of a casual dabbler in the world of serums and sprays, however, the industry’s rapidly changing trends require a bit of an explanation. Where to start?

“It’s good to experiment with skin care,” said Danuta Mieloch, aesthetician and founder of New York-based Rescue Spa, “but make sure you have the basics down first.” (You know: cleanse, moisturize, SPF.) Once a simple regimen is in place, you can explore the hallucinatory range of procedures, from calculable to kooky. We gathered 26 of the buzziest elements of skin care today, but as Ms. Mieloch cautioned: “With skin care it’s almost like a pair of jeans—what’s good for some is not always as good for the others.”

Danuta Shares Her Evening Routine

Danuta Mieloch invited us into her home to share her Evening Routine. Trust us, you do not want to miss this. She has so many tricks up her sleeves! Double P50? Triple Masking? Microcurrents? It’s all in here…

The Beginner’s Guide To Investment Skincare

Maintenance

By which I mean regular facials. When asked where they invest when it comes to their skin, three out of three Glossier employees surveyed responded “RESCUE SPA” while running around wildly and displaying Danuta’s likeness tattooed onto their biceps. Consider booking yourself an appointment with someone you trust (this is the time to build a relationship, not flit around to just anyone) and see them twice a year. The professional-grade microdermabrasion and extractions alone will have you seeing the results for months on end. Also, talk about cumulative effects: When someone knows your skin, you can work towards a goal together instead of shooting in the dark alone. Think of this as your skin accountant. Didn’t think I’d take the metaphor that far, did ya? – Emily Ferber x Into The Gloss

“My skincare routine has changed since I shot my Top Shelf, for sure! One of the biggest changes was that I started using all Biologique Recherche. I have this girlfriend Hayley, at her house we would always inevitably end up drinking wine, and after three glasses of wine she was like, ‘Come into the bathroom, we’re doing a facial!’ And she’d always give me these Biologique facials with all these serums, and the moisturizer, all of it. I’d wake up in the morning with a slight hangover but my skin would be amazing! Eventually I took the plunge and got the whole regimen. My favorite trick is to use the Masque Vivant combined with the Masque VIP. I mix it in my hand with baking soda. A facialist told me about that, and it works.  Then I use the Biologique toner, cleanser, and serum.

I’m just obsessed with anything skincare, so if someone has something that I don’t have I’m like, ‘Ooh, what’s that?’ One of my other girlfriends had the Ziip-of course I picked it up. I started using it, and it’s amazing. Like, it actually is amazing. It does work. I have all the gadgets-I have the LED mask, I have it all. I use them when I’m watching TV.

I use Oribe shampoo and conditioner. For the luxe of it all. To be honest, [my hair] is a little temperamental. But when I’m in a good environment, like when I’m at home or when I’m driving, my hair dries really well. I just tuck it under my ears, and it dries in this sort of wavy, sort of straight way. But if it’s not in the right environment and I let it dry naturally, it will be so frizzy. If I just go straight outside or for a walk or something, my hair will get frizzy. So I try to be inside and let it dry. It can be wavy, but it can also be quite frizzy and poofy, which I actually sometimes like. Because it makes me feel like I’m in an 80’s rom-com. I have a straightener and a blow dryer, but I don’t really use them much. Except when I’m in a really big rush and don’t want to wait and see if my hair dries nice or not, I’ll blow dry it properly and straighten it. One thing I learned is called the preemptive dry shampoo. So even when your hair is clean, the night before you go to bed, you put dry shampoo in. And the you wake up and it’s got a good texture. So I do that sometimes. It helps that I have a silk pillowcase, but I’m also too messy and I drool all over it [Laughs].” –Phoebe Tonkin as told to Into The Gloss

How to Care for Your Skin — While You Sleep NY Times (T Magazine)

Cleanse and Cleanse Again
As a first step, skin-care experts agree that cleansing and toning should never be skipped (or rushed) at night. Danuta Mieloch, the facialist and founder of Rescue Spa, swears by a double-cleanse with Biologique Recherche USA’s Lait U using a muslin cloth to remove any last traces of makeup.

For toner, both Mieloch and Czech use Biologique Recherche P50, which “exfoliates, hydrates and balances the pH of the skin,” Mieloch says.

Personalize Your Serum
Next, according to all of the facialists we polled: an overnight serum. These concentrated liquids contain the highest doses of nutrients, and facialists often combine them to create customized, targeted tinctures.

Moisturize Generously
Lastly, moisturize — and moisturize some more — since the body’s natural hydration levels dip at night. Finish with a rich cream; Mieloch is partial to MBR Skincare Cream Extraordinary ($369) , spiked with ultra-hydrating lanolin and light-reflective gold particles to subtly conceal any imperfections.

The Facial That Will Make You Glow For Days – The S Life Mag

To say I’m obsessed with skincare would be a huge understatement, I’m an esthetician after all, among many other things, and in constant search for the next miracle product, antioxidant-rich superfood, or beauty sanctuary to increase my outer-glow.

When I heard Rescue Spa (*RS) of Philadelphia was opening a New York City location, my beauty prayers had been answered. I discovered their e-commerce site a few years ago when I realized they carry cult-favorite skincare brand, Biologique Recherche (*BR). A super effective french skincare line that uses a clinical and holistic approach to skincare using pure, concentrated, and raw ingredients. BR was developed 40 years ago to please dissatisfied professionals in the beauty and skincare industry, and boy did they. It’s one of the most coveted skincare brands to-date with a product inventory ranging from face, to body, to hair-care.

Being a skincare nerd, it was both a privilege and honor to meet Rescue Spa owner and founder, Danuta Mieloch, who’s also a master esthetician. She’s delightful, full of pure positive energy; one of those lovely people you meet and immediately feel at ease with. Not to mention, she’s a serious badass in the skincare industry. Danuta is a wealth of knowledge and made talking about skincare easy and approachable. She performed their most popular facial, the ‘BIO-LIFT’ using you guessed it, BR products. What’s unique about the BIO-LIFT facial is that it uses round foam pads with electric current to stimulate, tighten, and tone facial muscles.

The BR product line is so advanced in treating different skin types, the products are totally customizable to your OWN unique skin type, which is one of the reasons their products are so effective. Before the lift portion of the facial, Danuta began with a warm steam, cleanse, extractions (zero redness afterwards), and a light microdermabrasion before the microcurrent (the lifting part), which produces a slight tingling sensation on the skin and subtle metal taste in your mouth (which is totally normal). Following the microcurrent is a facial massage before being layered in a wonderful blend of serums and moisturizers. Skin glows SO hard after this treatment, I didn’t have to wear a touch of makeup for a week.

The treatment left my skin feeling refreshed – smooth, even, firm, and plump – no puffiness, hello, cheekbones! A perfect treatment for a special occasion, but also for monthly maintenance to keep your facial tone lifted the natural way. Essentially, this treatment is as if you sent your face to a gym for the day, minus the sweat and hard work. Danuta explained our skin regenerates every 28-days, give or take a few depending on age, so this treatment is perfect for keeping skin in tip-top shape on a monthly basis for a serious glow

For those who call NYC home, or who are planning a visit, make sure Rescue Spa is at the top of your list for serious pampering from head-to-toe. Their NYC location offers full-body treatments, massages, manicures, hair services – cut and color, makeup application, and their detailed facial menu has the perfect solution for every skin type. If there’s an oasis in NYC, this is definitely it. Guests are greeted by sweet smiles and warm personalities. The space is a large, white,loft-like space, filled with beautiful light and located in the Flatiron section of NYC. The front of RS is filtered with exceptional skincare and beauty products, and guests are escorted to a “tea bar,” with fresh fruits and cucumber water upon arrival. Once in the treatment room, it feels like you’re states away from NYC – white brick walls, brass mirrors, and natural wood shelving make you feel instantly at home and super cozy as you tuck yourself under the sheet in prep for your treatment. Rescue Spa is the ultimate destination for self-love and for getting your inner and outer glow on. If you can’t make a visit to their NYC (or Philadelphia) location, you can access the next best thing: using BR products (available here) for achieving your ultimate skin-glow.

While at RS, I took this opportunity to get the 411 on Biologique products from Danuta to see what the hype is on using the one-and-only P50 toner that’s a must in almost everyone’s beauty cabinet.

THE LOWDOWN ON BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE PRODUCTS

Q. BR is praised in the skincare world, why are their products so loved and coveted by all? Is it worth taking the plunge to use Biologique Recherche products?

A. There’s so much love that goes into the process of creating and developing BR products. It’s about craftsmanship with this brand and family heritage, which is greatly respected and appreciated in France. The products are produced and made in a highly concentrated hand-crafted way that’s sustainable in a beautiful lab outside of Paris. The smell of most of the BR products are musky and strong, but it’s because the ingredients are raw, fresh, and active. Activating skin cells and penetrating for optimal results. There’s a beautiful authenticity behind the products and great love that makes it so desirable and the products produce exceptional results for various skin types.

Q. What’s your top selling BR product? (Like I should have even asked, ha.)

A. P50 1970, hands down. It’s basically a facial in a bottle, or a magical potion if you will. It exfoliates and balances the pH of your skin. Think of it as a probiotic for your skin. It also hydrates, but having a healthy pH means healthy, beautiful glowing skin and so for that alone it’s worth it and makes it stand out over other facial toners on the market.

Q. What’s the best product to start with if purchasing BR for the first time?

A. Of course it’s going to be our best seller, the P50 toner. We P50 1970 for everyone. It’s the most effective version of the toner and most commonly used, but for more sensitive skin, there’s a milder version available, too – the P50V.

Q. What is it about P50 toner that makes it so great?

A. Aside from balancing your skin’s pH level and overall promoting healthy skin, one of the superstar ingredients is Lactic Acid, which helps to brighten, exfoliate, and even skin tone, but in a gentle way without drying skin or causing peeling like so many other toners can do. It’s effective and packs a serious punch, while still being gentle on skin, which is why it is so cult-worthy.

A Master Facialists 3 Simple Rules For Glowing Skin This Holiday Season

Her craft is all about the ‘art of the genuine.’ –Thrive Global

1. Cleanse your skin thoroughly at night to take all the party makeup off. I recommend double cleansing to be extra thorough. My mom used to preach “If you don’t cleanse your skin at night you age 7 days faster.”

2. You only have one skin, look after it. Create a daily ritual of cleansing, layering your serums and moisturizing.

3. You only have one life, live it beautifully. Make time to relax, sleep, eat well, exercise, and have beautiful experiences.

“I never thought this masque would be suitable for oil-prone skin at my age, but, recently, I was pleasantly surprised to discover other wise. In this post I would like to focus on the benefits of adding this masque creme to a regimen.”

Masque Creme Biofixine is one of the earliest products from the Biologique Recherche line, a lifting and brightening masque that can be used in so many ways! I never thought this masque would be suitable for oil-prone skin at my age, but, recently, I was pleasantly surprised to discover other wise. In this post I would like to focus on the benefits of adding this masque creme to a regimen.

Biologique Recherche Masque Creme Biofixine is a toning anti-wrinkle treatment, both a mask and a cream. It is an innovative multifunctional product that tones and smoothes the epidermis, improves skin elasticity, helps unify the texture of the skin and prevent visible signs of aging. It features a re-plumping effect and leaves the skin feeling wonderfully soothed. The grape seed oil and green anise extract help fight free radicals while the white clay purifies. This BR oxygenating complex brings life back to your skin.

Here’s how I use it as a masque: After cleansing my face with the Lait Vip O2 and a thorough application of P50 1970, I follow up with an MC110 booster in the areas that need some extra attention. I prefer to apply the Masque Creme Biofixine all over my face, neck and décolletage in a thin layer and let it work it’s magic! 20-30 minutes should be sufficient. Then I remove it with a damp cloth and follow up with Fluide VIPO2 for more glowing skin. Before an event or after a long night out, I recommend leaving the masque on for up to 2 hours for extra purifying and plumping benefits.

Here’s how to use it as a cream: Application is the same as above but this time I make sure to apply a very thin layer on and massage it upwards until it is completely absorbed. The next morning, my skin is visibly brighter, smoother and awake! I like to use Masque Creme Biofixine as a cream after a grueling and exhausting day or a long-haul flight. You should try it this way too!

Masque Creme Biofixine is on the pricier side of products, but, in my opinion, it is worth every penny! Try it for yourself and discover why I consider this masque a favorite and call it the best route to beautiful and glowing skin!
