A Few of Monika Kozlowska’s Favorite Things

monika_k_blog_2016

Monika Kozlowska – Rescue Spa Aesthetician

Just as the skin has many different layers so does my beloved skincare regimen, as each one serves different values to your skin.  Biologique Recherche products allow each individual to create a unique program for their personal best skin.

My recommended five step regimen starts with a cleansing milk such as Lait U to cleanse, hydrate and balance your skin.

Second? Lotion P50 Original “1970 toner… a treatment in itself!  Well known as a“facial in a bottle” it tops the charts in terms of a product that does it all.  The phenol is antibacterial and balancing, the salicylic acid gently exfoliates your skin, and the lactic acid hydrates.  Seriously, a perfect combination!  After the first use, your skin will be glowing and pH balanced which is so important in order to keep the skin’s natural barrier and protection healthy.

Third. Here come the Quintessential Serums (one for each skin type)!  They are all water based with active amino acids or peptides meant to treat skin imbalances.  Use them after  P50, they penetrate quickly and set your skin for the final step: Moisturizer.

Last but not least BR offers the most sophisticated finishing serums which provide instant and long lasting effects.  They are formulated with botanical extracts, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid,  as well as potent moisturizing and oxygenating DNA extracts.  They can be applied both under or over moisturizer for a radiant and natural finish.  Finishing Serums aren’t to be overlooked, they prolong and protect the effects of your entire skincare regimen.  *They also create a great makeup base.

There is technically one more step worth mentioning … Sunscreen.  Yes, it should be applied separately because every well-respected line keeps SPF separate from their creams in order to maintain the benefits of the active ingredients in both products.

Samantha Lowe’s Fall Skincare Regimen

fall skincare regimenAs the seasons change,  so does my skin care routine.  Lait U and P50 1970 every morning and evening. Valmont face scrub followed by Masque Visolastine E. every 4 days and in between, Masque Vivant. Yes, I do something extra for my skin everyday.  Both masks can stay on for 10-20 minutes. Masking and exfoliating on the same night is a really wonderful way to give your skin the added punch of active ingredients. That’s why P50 1970 should be used daily. Even that slight exfoliation will increase the efficacy of all of your products. I will continue this probably through October.

And that’s just the beginning. The truth is,  after the basic cleanse, exfoliate and tone; hydration, serums and sun protection always baffle clients. In the evening, I think of repairing my skin.  Clarifying Surge from Valmont and Intensive Alpha Hydroxy Cream from Environ alternated for this darn sun damage. I always use Valmont Prime Contour or Factor 3 under my eyes at night. During the day, Factor 2. All from Valmont. Day cream is Creme ADN Elastine Marine Collagene Marin and Complex Royal, layered from BR. Now that fall is truly here, I’m going to modify my daily SPF. The Mineral Spray from Dr. Gross is an SPF 50. Normally I would go down to a 30 but because of my sun damage,  I will be getting a few photo facials in the coming months.
Check back in November to see what winter has in store for my skin!

From dry skin to chapped lips: Renowned Center City aesthetician, Danuta Mieloch, addresses your winter skin woes

Don’t fall (no pun intended) for the unseasonably warm weather this week. The crisp fall air is sure to return.

The brisk autumn and winter air can wreak havoc on skin, so I went straight to the expert for preemptive damage control. Awarded “Best Facial” in Philadelphia by Allure magazine, Danuta Mieloch, aesthetician and owner of Rescue Spa in Center City has been transforming the faces of women in Philadelphia since 2004.

Mieloch tackles the most common winter skin care concerns, such as:

Dry skin: “Winter, with its cold air and drying heat, can be tough on your skin,” says Mieloch. For dry skin, she recommends stepping up your routine to keep skin moist by:

●      Applying moisturizer right after the shower while skin is still dewy to seal in moisture.

●      Switching to a richer moisturizer.

Mieloch also advises to layer your skin care products. “Layering doesn’t just apply to your wardrobe, it also applies to your skin care,” reveals Mieloch. “Layer serums, under moisturizer, followed by sunscreen.”

Oily skin: For those with oily skin who think they can skip the moisturizer in colder weather, think again. “Oily skin still needs a lightweight moisturizer and sunscreen in the winter. Don’t forget to exfoliate, it is essential for oily skin,” reminds Mieloch.

Sensitive skin: “Choose a gentle fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer. You might want to skip (or use less) moisturizers containing fruit acid and retinol in the winter,” warns Mieloch. “In the winter they tend to further irritate dry sensitive skin.”

Dull skin: To prevent dull, dry, rough skin, exfoliate gently and regularly. At Rescue, we suggest using P50 for both face and body. It instantly brightens the skin, removing dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and lets moisturizer better penetrate the skin.

Other tips Mieloch shares are:

●      For chapped lips, use Aquaphor or a beeswax-based lip balm, preferably with SPF.

●      Hands need extra care in the winter. Apply moisturizer followed by SPF.  Wear cotton gloves with a heavy moisturizer on overnight to really soothe and soften hands.

●      Use a humidifier at home.

●      Always wear an SPF all year long.

●      Drink plenty of water and bundle up!

Stride Into Summer with a Smart Sun Approach…

Sun exposure without protection is the most damaging thing you can do to your skin.  Here are some tips for a safe and fun time in the sun:

  1. Use a broad spectrum UVA (aging) UVB (burning) SPF of at least factor 30 every day.  UV rays reflect, that’s why you need to wear sunscreen even while in the office, car, and shade.
  2. Reapply SPF often. Every 2-3 hours. Give your skin time to absorb sunscreen before exposure (about 15-30 minutes). Use liberally.
  3. Don’t forget your lips, neck, hands and all other exposed areas.  Remember to wear a hat & sunglasses to prevent squinting and damage to your eyes.
  4. Avoid staying outdoors in peak sun hours 10am-3pm.
  5. Some medications & products (antibiotics, cortizone, retin-A, acids, etc) increase risk of UV damage.  Check with your doctor.
  6. To get that sun kissed look we recommend applying self tanner before you go into the sun. James Read’s sleep mask is so convenient it works while you sleep!
  7. There is no such thing as a healthy tan.  If you like a bronzed look do it gradually using Institut Esthederm Adaptasun Bronz Repair for face and body .  It revs up melanin production while protecting from both UVA and UVB rays.
  8. After sun and swimming apply After Sun Repair and Huile Benefique to keep your skin hydrated.  When you’re back from vacation be sure to use Tan Enhancing Lotion to prolong the glow you got from Adaptasun Bronz Repair!
  9. Your summer skincare routine should be simple.  Switch to lighter serums and moisturizers such as Cellular Water Gel,Gel Adn Silkgen.  Use multitasking products like French women favorites: Lait Concentrate by Embryolisse any time for face, hands, feet, and body.  Exfoliate regularly to get rid of build up. Instead of mascara try an eyelash tint.  Visit our salon for an instantly fresh look via a summer haircut & glaze. At home and on the go be sure to protect your tresses with Rene Furterer’s suncare line.  Don’t forget about your brows. Forgo pencil in the summer and try a shape & tint for an effortless summer look.  Strong brows & bright lips are in!
  10. Sit back, relax, let the good times roll. Make sure to enjoy this summer and take a vacation.

Its All About Prevention

Summer time is my favorite time of year. For someone who grew up at the jersey shore its all about the beaches boardwalk and fun in the sun. When I was growing up we didn’t think or know much about sunblock or sunscreen. Those times have changed with all the information out there now on sun damage as well as skin cancer its not something we can ignore any longer. I have learned a lot in my twenty three years as a Esthetician and its all about prevention. This season at Rescue we have several products to choose from as far as sunscreen. But my all time favorite product is Natura Bisse the Cure from Barcelona Spain. This product is a game changer its light creamy texture doesn’t even feel like a sun screen its actually three products in one sunscreen, moisturizer and makeup. The tint is self adjusting to work with all skin types. So if you’re headed to work or going to that pool party you are ready to go. I’ve never been much of a fan of BB creams they always seemed too heavy for my oily skin. This product is like velvet and the coverage is just enough for warm summer days. The best part is this product is good for your skin as well. It increases collagen, replenishes and hydrates the skin all day with ingredients such as amino acids and hylarounic acid. It has an spf of 20 but doesn’t irritate. It actually soothes sensitive skin. This may become my all year round product because my skin has never looked better. So if you’re looking to hydrate, even out your skin tone and protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays Natura Bisse the Cure is the product for you. Hope everyone enjoys Summer as much as I do!

Do AA, BB, CC and DD creams have you feeling diZZy?

AA creams, BB creams, CC creams and their newest alphabet member – DD creams – all claim to be all-in-one creams to replace products you currently use. While DD creams are the most recent to hit the market, we’re sure they won’t be the last letter in the alphabet soup to make its way into a cream. Jan Marini Skin Research has had an AA+BB+CC+DD product for years – Antioxdiant Daily Face Protectant in Sunskissed tints!

Ultimate Summer Product Pick

Summer is in full swing and I’d like to talk about my most favorite product for the next couple of months.  You probably guessed it already, it’s sunscreen.  Here at Rescue we have an array of sunscreens to choose from.  From Institut Esthederm we have products that promote sun protection and repair (a European favorite) to Environ’s zinc based sunscreen full of antioxidants (South African approach).  Yet my absolute favorite right now is Jan Marini’s Physical Protectant SPF 45. It has self adjusting tint, suitable for any skin type. Great for oily skin since it’s zinc based.  UVA/UVB broad spectrum coverage that is FDA approved. Water resistant. Full of antioxidants but NO Parabens (a favorite in the USA).

Don’t forget a hat and umbrella and stay in the shade. Remember that staying out of the sun is the best anti-aging prevention!
