Danuta Shares Her Evening Routine

Danuta Mieloch invited us into her home to share her Evening Routine. Trust us, you do not want to miss this. She has so many tricks up her sleeves! Double P50? Triple Masking? Microcurrents? It’s all in here…

Nude Lip Glow for dewy, fresh, healthy looking lips.

We are all striving for that radiant glow in our skin. Why not apply that same philosophy to our lips?

When searching for a nude lipstick  we often gravitate towards very neutral or beige colors. Before makeup lines began to cultivate a range of fleshy lip tones in various formulas, editorial makeup artists sometimes used concealer to create their own nude lip colors. This old school nude effect called for an almost colorless lip (often to balance a bold feature like a smokey eye). Today, an everyday nude lip color can be much fresher and showcase the wearer’s unique lip tone.

A  nude color that is  translucent lets the natural skin color peek through. A good way to estimate if a nude lipstick is a good color is to swatch a little on your cheeks. If it doesn’t work as a subtle blush then it is probably won’t read as natural on the lips. Line the lips in a pencil that is as close to an exact match of the natural lip color as possible. This creates a strong base for the shape and an undertone that is realistic. My current favorite formula for a healthy looking lip is the Chantecaille Lip Chic which boosts moisture with hyaluronic acid. Right now I like the pinkish nude Hyacinth and the light mauve Wisteria  (an interesting twist on nude as it is light reflective and picks up on realistic purple undertones common in many complexions). A new addition this summer is the warm caramel Lychee Lip Sleek. These hydrating formulas keeps your lips dewy and plump.

Even if you prefer a really neutral color, always consider that the lips should look like they have a healthy glow of circulation. Part of the reason your face looks so plumped and radiant after a facial is the wonderful circulation that has been stimulated from the massage. If your nude lipstick looks too flat or too colorless, you can add a tiny amount of a bright transparent gloss in a color like pink or coral or on top (just enough to boost the shade without changing the color completely). Another method is to lightly stain bare lips with a red or berry tone and then apply a nude color over it. These color layering tricks help ensure the look of a healthy complexion by adding a flush of warmth to your lips.

Not sure how to find the right shade? Schedule a consultation and we’ll help you find the best nude for you!

Calling All Blondes!

Sunny summer days making your hair feel brassy and dry? It’s ok, you’re not alone.  Salt water, chlorine and sun take its toll on everyone’s hair, but blondes can feel even more taxed when your color starts to turn yellow.

To combat those undesirable hues, I recommend Davines Alchemic Shampoo and Conditioner formulated for blonde and silver hair. The strong purple pigments will neutralize brassy tones and restore vibrancy in between color services. Start with using the shampoo and conditioner once a week, increasing frequency as necessary. If your hair is very porous, you may find that the conditioner, paired with your favorite color conserving shampoo, may be enough to do the trick! Try leaving the conditioner on for 3 to 5 minutes for the full benefits.

Follow with a moisturizing leave-in (like Davines Oi All In One Milk) to tame, smooth and lock in shine.

The days are thankfully getting longer and as we get to spend more time outdoors enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, it is critical to increase the use of sunscreen to prevent the development of solar keratosis and, by implication, help to reduce the risk of skin cancer.

If you Google The New England Journal of Medicine you will see multiple peer reviewed studies on the benefits of using sunscreen. I would first encourage you to use a high quality sunscreen daily – even when it is cloudy as those UV rays, especially with ozone depletion, can impact your skin. This is critical not only for your complexion, but also for your long-term health.

I recommend Suntegrity SPF 30 Sunscreen because it offers broad-spectrum protection without the chalkiness, greasiness or harsh chemicals.

Unfortunately there is a negative to sunscreen use – facial irritation and clogged pores that can lead to unwanted and sometimes “ugly” consequences. Is there a solution? Yes.

Masking at home with Valmont Purifying Pack 2-3 times a week will help to keep your skin clear and looking its best during these humid months.

To further minimize congestion of the skin, don’t forget to switch to lighter products. I recommend Environ Antioxidant Gel for daytime, or if your skin is on the drier side, Environ AVST moisturizer.  Using products with powerful antioxidants such as green tea extract, Vitamins A, C and E along with your sunscreen will give you additional protection against free-radicals from the harmful UV rays as well as environmental factors.

At night I recommend double cleansing with Biologique Recherché Lait VIP O2 to remove makeup and impurities, while allowing the skin to take in oxygen. Follow this with Biologique Recherché Lotion P50 1970 to exfoliate and regulate excessive sebum secretion.

For the final step, I recommend using Valmont DNA Repair Serum and Valmont Soothing Cream together to boost the skin’s capacity for repair. Using these products at nighttime, when the skin is most active, will help heal damaged tissue, while calming irritation and redness.

For extra care around the delicate eye area, I always like to finish with a separate eye cream such as Valmont Expression Line Reducer Eye Factor I.

Of course, if your skin needs a deep pore cleaning, nothing beats a Rescue facial from a qualified esthetician. We can assess your skin and customize a treatment to your specific needs. It usually begins with a deep cleanse using steam to open up the pores, followed by exfoliation. As you get relaxed, your pores will be cleansed via various means to insure healthy and vibrant skin.

Action Step?  Don’t wait.  Don’t procrastinate. Book a rejuvenating facial with one of Rescue Spa’s experienced estheticians, such as myself and consider a gift certificate for a friend or significant other.

Let us embrace the fresh air and warmth that summer provides, while enjoying the sun responsibly.

Your skin will love you for it!

Mama, Love Your Skin!

As a busy working mom of 2 in the skin care industry, it’s important for me to feel good and look refreshed, hydrated, and youthful. Repeatedly, I hear moms say they don’t have time to take care of their skin. They don’t even have time to wash their face. Yet they want to age gracefully and have youthful skin. It’s time to take the time.

I have a few simple steps that are quick and easy to do. I’ve kept it simple so you will keep on taking the time to care for your skin.

Because it is important.
Because you are worth it.

  • Cleansing- Cellcosmet gentle cream cleanser.
It has jojoba oil and rose flower water. I find it to be a nice way to remove eye make-up and over all cleanse without stripping you of your natural oils.
  • Always double cleanse.
  • Toner- p50 pigm 400.
Keeps skin balanced, even toned. Helps lighten those skin spots most mamas relate to and preps the skin for your next product.
  • Over the entire face – Cellcosmet ultra vital.
It’s light and over-all hydrating without feeling greasy.
  • Daily face protectant.
I have been liking Jan Marini, antioxidants, broad spectrum, SPF 33.
  • A little bonus, new to me and a favorite, Vintner’s Daughter active-botanical serum.  It helps to reduce signs of aging, strengthens collagen, and delivers oxygen to the cells to help protect the skin. I’ll use this a few times a week, especially if I’m outdoors that day.

I hope this helps the mamas in the world. The truth is, at this point in my life, I would rather get compliments on my skin than on a new pair shoes.

Esthetician,
Suzanne Zelley
