This is what to do for your hair in the summer…

What are the biggest mistakes people make with their hair in the summer?

Many people underestimate just how harsh the elements can be on hair during summer. Daily exposure to UV rays, salt, and heat styling (on already sun-stressed strands) can cause lasting damage.

“The biggest mistakes I see are washing with harsh shampoos that strips natural oils, leaving hair dry and prone to frizz, skipping conditioner or not using a leave-in and protective product makes hair vulnerable to damage from sun, chlorine, or saltwater.”

“One of the biggest hair mistakes people make in summer is neglecting sun protection! Just like your skin, your hair can get burned and dried out. Another mistake is forgetting to hydrate! Summer heat can strip moisture, leading to brittle strands.”

How does sun exposure affect hair, and what can people do to protect it?

Just like skin, your hair is vulnerable to UV damage. Prolonged sun exposure can break down the protein structure of the hair, fade color, and lead to brittleness and split ends.

“You can use a UV protected hair product comes in many forms like a spray conditioner. At the end of the day, make sure to wash your hair with a hydrating shampoo and a repairing conditioner and your hair will feel amazing.”

What’s your go-to tip for keeping colored hair vibrant through beach days and pool dips?

Colored hair is especially vulnerable in the summer. It fades faster in the sun and gets compromised by chlorine and salt. If you’re investing in color, you need to protect it.

“I recommend putting hair conditionor very heavy in the hair then braiding it, putting it in a ponytail, or wrapping it on top of your head while you’re in the pool or ocean water. While in the sun, wear a hat it protects your skin as well as your hair.”

Ettore M.

Frizz seems inevitable in the summer. What products or techniques really work to fight it?

Humidity swells the hair shaft and lifts the cuticle, making frizz nearly unavoidable for some hair types. But there are ways to keep it in check.

“Frizz is a common summer woe! For lightweight styling, a light weight cream that gives you hold without feeling heavy. As for air-drying, it can definitely cause frizz if your hair is prone to it, but using a good leave-in conditioner can help tame those rebellious strands!”

What are some summer-friendly haircuts or styles you’re recommending right now?

Summer is also a great time to shift your style. Focusing on cuts that are low-maintenance or adding texture will work with the season and not against it.

“Right now, I’m loving textured bobs and long layers—both are super trendy and perfect for summer. They help your hair feel light and breezy!”
