Viral Skincare Trends: DO’s & DONT’s

With so much skincare and beauty content to scroll through, being able to narrow down which viral trends actually work can be tricky. In Danuta Mieloch’s most recent interview with PageSix she spilled some crucial skincare secrets on some viral trends! With decades of experience in the industry, she has been able to see first hand what really works and what we should maybe avoid the next time we see it trending on socials.

Slugging

Slugging is a skincare technique that involves applying a thick layer of balm as the final step in your skincare routine, most often in the evening. The purpose is to crease a barrier on the skin surface to seal in moisture as you sleep! This is beneficial to those with dry or dehydrated skin, or those with a damaged skin barrier. The term itself was created from the idea that your face appears shiny and smooth, almost resembling a slugs skin. Master Esthetician and skin expert Danuta Mieloch urges people to avoid using products containing petroleum as a slugging product which can be overly occlusive to the skin. Instead, try using the gentle, face balm Cerabalm as your slugging product. Cerabalm is made using all-natural, clean-beauty ingredients such as hibiscus oil, meadowfoam oil and sea buckthorn oil to reduce redness, fight hyperpigmentation, nourish and smooth texture. All you need is a pea sized amount gently pressed into the skin after your moisturizer.

Double Cleansing

The double cleansing method is the process of cleansing the skin twice to ensure the skin is thoroughly cleansed. The first cleanse is typically done with an oil based cleanser or a balm and the second cleanse is suited for your skin type or skin concerns. Double cleansing is the only way you should be cleansing your skin at night! Start with a gentle clear like The Azulene Cleansing Milk which is a gentle makeup remover for the face, lips and eyes. It is formulated with calming ingredients like chamomile flower extract, anti-aging ingredients like marine collagen and nourishing ingredients like sweet almond oil. Once you have effectively removed any traces of makeup, SPF and impurities the skin is ready for a proper cleanse. For a deeper second cleanse, the Enzyme Cleansing Booster has become a tried and true. This deep pore cleansing powder removes excess sebum, minimizes pores, activates cell regeneration and regulates the skin’s pH balance. This can be used as a true second cleanse or as a 2-3x a week treatment dependent on the sensitivity of your skin.

Cold Therapy

Cold therapy can be beneficial for those with sensitive, inflamed or puffy skin as it can help calm irritation and reduce redness. Cold therapy in skincare is the use of chilled tools to reduce inflammation and swelling in the skin while enhancing circulation. If you are looking to add in a tool for cold therapy, especially as we enter into the summer months, take a look at these Cryo-Sticks. They are designed in stainless steel and are meant to be stored in the refrigerator or in an ice bath before use. Cryo-Sticks lower the skin’s temperature immediately which depuffs, reduces inflammation and promotes vasoconstriction. The design itself makes it simple and easy for effective massaging and adapting to the contours of the face and neck.

Vitamin C

Used as a potent antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage which is a leading cause of photoaging while simultaneously preventing and repairing hyperpigmentation. Incorporating in a vitamin C product is a lovely option to target several common skin concerns while protecting the skin from damage. A best-seller is the IS Clinical Super Serum Advance+ which has both age-defying and brightening benefits. Its formula combines a 15% concentration of vitamin C with a bioidentical copper tripeptide growth factor to increase collagen synthesis and provide support against environmental aggressors. For a multi-purpose option, the latest from Danucera, the Mega Serum treats a variety of common skin concerns. The result is skin that is infused with critical nutrients and is revitalized for a more youthful glow.

With the rise in popularity of skincare as a whole, different skincare trends have emerged as a result. After running through some of skincare’s latest trends with Danuta, we are able to see what is safe to incorporate into our routines and what we should consider avoiding.
