One of the most beloved and effective cleansers on the market -via The Strategist

Since my skin is both dry and sensitive, and since I find that the two often go hand in hand, I’ve grouped them together for simplicity’s sake. I’ve searched high and low for a cleansing milk that is as spectacular as Biologique’s, and even though I’ve found some pretty convincing dupes, this has, and probably will always, hold the No. 1 spot when it comes to cleansing my dry-ass, sensitive, blemish-prone skin. This cleanser hydrates and soothes intensely, and while it doesn’t actively fight against rashes or blemishes, it preps skin perfectly for serums. I’ve heard some complaints that this cleanser doesn’t do an incredible job of removing makeup. This is true: When I come home with a full face of makeup after a night out, I go in with micellar water first.

Danuta’s Winter Essentials

It’s important to take special care of your skin in the winter. Here are a few things you can do to keep skin moist and healthy all season long…

  • Use a humidifier when the air is dry.
  • Put moisturizer and oil on your body immediately after bathing.
Create a ritual of applying oils like Body Oxygenant followed by MSRH Corps.
  • Wear natural fibers, such as cotton and silk, because they allow your skin to breathe.
  • Cover up when the air is dry, to hold moisture in.
  • Focus on proper nutrition and drinking plenty of water.
  • Avoid things that trigger allergic reactions. Use detergent free of dyes and perfumes.
  • Mature and drier skin types should apply and reapply moisturizer to lock in moisture.
  • Let’s not forget hands (telltale sign of age). Apply hand cream and cuticle oil often.
  • Don’t forget to wear gloves while doing home chores and while outdoors.
  • Practice a good skincare regimen:
  1. Dry skin can happen at any age, but it’s most likely a concern if you’re 50 or older. This is because the glands that make oil for your skin get smaller as you age and produce less.  Many popular soaps and cleansers “clean” your skin by removing oil. This strips the skin, which often causes dryness or breakouts to worsen. At Rescue we always recommend a gentle milky cleanser like Lait VIP o2. Use with a washcloth to buff away dry flaky skin and reveal the fresh skin that lies beneath. Washcloths are super gentle on the skin and most importantly, they don’t cost much. 🙂

  2. Once your skin is properly cleansed it is extremely important to balance the pH of your skin. Our favorite product for this step is Lotion P50 1970.During the winter I personally use P50 1970 at night and P50W in the daytime (this gentler formula is fantastic for winter). *A reminder to the health conscious: all Biologique Recherche products are paraben-free and safe to use.

  3. After you’ve applied P50 follow with a hylarounic acid based serum to keep skin plump, hydrated and, yes, looking younger! Babies are born with a high level of hyaluronic acid, which keeps their skin plump and smooth. Unfortunately, the amount of hyaluronic acid in skin diminishes with age, most significantly after age 40. While it may not be possible to maintain perfectly dewy baby-skin, these serums help to restore the skin’s hyaluronic acid content. Applied topically hyaluronic acid increases hydration, improves elasticity, and reverses free radical damage. All skin types, even oily, will benefit from using hyaluronic acid serum. *For those who get injectables it prolongs the plumping effect.

LayerWinter skincare is like your winter wardrobe, it’s all about layers! I always layer my serums, starting with the lightest texture and finishing with the thickest. Here is my current mix of serums and creams for daytime: AmniotiqueLe Grand Serum, Yall o2, Creme Dermo RL, and Fluide VIP O2.

  4. Your evening routine is another story. Winter is time to bust out the big game changers like MBR’s liquid surgery serum, followed by MBR Extraordinary Cream. Mind you I’m over 50 and the names alone provide a feel-good-factor (I’ll take liquid surgery anytime, no pain or risk involved).

For younger gals I suggest Environ’s Cquence 3 serum. It’s packed with peptides, vitamins, and retinol to address antiaging in one simple step.

I also highly recommend keeping the skin challenged by alternating your regimen every other night. Currently I’m alternating MBR Extraordinary cream with BR Le Grand Creme (*available in January).

For a dry skin solution I love Vintners Daughter Active Botanical Serum – a clean beauty favorite of celebrities. It has a loyal following for good reason. This cult product is a powerful sustainably crafted oil that delivers skin all the essentials, moisture, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants.

Valmont Regenera II is another winter staple. It’s a rich cream-balm that solves dry skin, lips, cuticles, patches, etc. Love… love… love!

  5. Rescue Spa Facials are always geared to problem solve. Whether it’s dry skin, brown spots, redness, irritation, or inflamed acne, Rescue Facials are always customized to focus on what your skin needs. With the right combination of products and high-tech tools, our estheticians can really create change in the skin over time to help you achieve your greatest complexion.

  6. Last but not least. Cold weather is the best time to develop healthy rituals and ceremonies. Taking care of my skin is a daily practice.
Create your own magic, have fun in your mini beauty apothecary ….
    Light a candle….
    Mask often….
    Take a bath…
    Breathe….
Get cozy in slippers and wrap up in cashmere …..
Practice self love, cultivate wellbeing, sing, dance and feel like a goddess ….

Happy Winter :)))

From dry skin to chapped lips: Renowned Center City aesthetician, Danuta Mieloch, addresses your winter skin woes

Don’t fall (no pun intended) for the unseasonably warm weather this week. The crisp fall air is sure to return.

The brisk autumn and winter air can wreak havoc on skin, so I went straight to the expert for preemptive damage control. Awarded “Best Facial” in Philadelphia by Allure magazine, Danuta Mieloch, aesthetician and owner of Rescue Spa in Center City has been transforming the faces of women in Philadelphia since 2004.

Mieloch tackles the most common winter skin care concerns, such as:

Dry skin: “Winter, with its cold air and drying heat, can be tough on your skin,” says Mieloch. For dry skin, she recommends stepping up your routine to keep skin moist by:

●      Applying moisturizer right after the shower while skin is still dewy to seal in moisture.

●      Switching to a richer moisturizer.

Mieloch also advises to layer your skin care products. “Layering doesn’t just apply to your wardrobe, it also applies to your skin care,” reveals Mieloch. “Layer serums, under moisturizer, followed by sunscreen.”

Oily skin: For those with oily skin who think they can skip the moisturizer in colder weather, think again. “Oily skin still needs a lightweight moisturizer and sunscreen in the winter. Don’t forget to exfoliate, it is essential for oily skin,” reminds Mieloch.

Sensitive skin: “Choose a gentle fragrance-free cleanser and moisturizer. You might want to skip (or use less) moisturizers containing fruit acid and retinol in the winter,” warns Mieloch. “In the winter they tend to further irritate dry sensitive skin.”

Dull skin: To prevent dull, dry, rough skin, exfoliate gently and regularly. At Rescue, we suggest using P50 for both face and body. It instantly brightens the skin, removing dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and lets moisturizer better penetrate the skin.

Other tips Mieloch shares are:

●      For chapped lips, use Aquaphor or a beeswax-based lip balm, preferably with SPF.

●      Hands need extra care in the winter. Apply moisturizer followed by SPF.  Wear cotton gloves with a heavy moisturizer on overnight to really soothe and soften hands.

●      Use a humidifier at home.

●      Always wear an SPF all year long.

●      Drink plenty of water and bundle up!

NEW at RESCUE! MOLLIDERM

Molliderm is a special cream that works quickly and efficiently against dry and sensitive skin. Soothes conditions such as eczema.

Molliderm contains a special natural sunflower oil and beeswax that help restoring the body’s natural skin barrier and moisture balance. It is composed with as few ingredients as possible and contains only what is essential for your skin. This is to make sure that your skin is not exposed unnecessarily to potentially harmful ingredients. It is free from perfume, parabens and colorants but full of things that is good for your skin.

With high dose of a specific patented extract from Sunflower oil and high quality of beeswax, Molliderm is very suitable for people with dry and sensitive skin.

Molliderm is carefully formulated with very few ingredients to minimize the stress to dry skin. Regular preservatives are avoided and instead mild organic compounds are used to preserve the formulation. (The product should be used within 3 months after opening).

SUNFLOWER OIL:  The wild sunflower is native to North America according to archaeological findings and traditional tales (traces found dated 3000 BC). The oil extracted from seeds was used as body and hair ointment.  Sunflower oil is recommended for cosmetic care products dedicated to the reinforcement of thin epidermis and the improvement of dry skin dysfunction.

– Dry and atopic skins
– Strengthening mature skins
– Long lasting moisturizing and restructuring body lotion
– Hand, lip and foot balm
– Soothing skincare for sensitive skin

Clinical tests show that a single application of sunflower oil 2% emulsion provides an immediate and long-lasting moisturisation (24h). A study made under dermatological or pediatrical control on 227 children during 4 weeks with a 2 % Sunflower oil showed improvement on skin dryness +88, Desquamation +84, Erythema +81, Pruritus +80.

BEESWAX: Acting as a surfactant, beeswax, when blended into cold creams and other skin lotions, forms a protective barrier on the surface of the skin. This barrier can provide a film of protection against irritants while still allowing the skin to breathe.

Q: Is the Lotion P50 “1970” safe?

A: Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 is the most famous and coveted product in the skincare world. It’s an active exfoliator that has been around for over 30 years. It’s a potent formula that tackles wrinkles, enlarged pores, regulates the sebum, hydrates, and helps skin maintain the correct pH balance. It prevents ingrown hairs, that’s why men love it. The Lotion P50 “1970” version has a high concentration of botanical, marine and biological extracts. It has the highest quality of active ingredients that provide dramatically visible results yet it does contain lactic acid and a miniscule amount of phenol which activates the product. So if you are pregnant or nursing, or going through cancer treatments I would advise to use the regular Lotion P50 (without phenol). As for me I’ve been using Lotion P50 “1970” for 15 years and I cannot imagine going a morning or night without it, because I love the way it makes my skin look. There is nothing else out there that compares!
